Tributes to former Cardiff Lord Mayor Max Phillips

Tributes have poured in following the death of former Lord Mayor of Cardiff Max Phillips.

Mr Phillips died on November 16 after a short illness.

He was first elected to Cardiff council on May 6, 1976, representing the Fairwater ward.

Councillor Michael Michael said: “I knew Max for 40 years. He was a really good friend and a fantastic councillor who represented Fairwater and Pentrebane incredibly well and worked fantastically hard. He was a credit to the city in his role as Lord Mayor.”
"He will be sadly missed by everyone"

Mr Phillips – whose wife Barbara was former leader of South Glamorgan County Council – became Lord Mayor of Cardiff in 1997.

“I first became a councillor in 1997, when Max became Lord Mayor” said Coun Michael. “It was a wonderful year for the ward. He served this city proudly for something like 25 years.
