TRINI HOSPITALITY NEEDED...

Three white Americans pan people are traveling to T&T from Feb.9th to 17th, they are staying in Diego Martin and plan on getting around by public transport by themselves.

We should all be a little concern for their safety in our country, so if there is any way we could assist in making there stay enjoyable  will be much appreciated.

  • Thanks for your assistance Cecil, I hadn't seen you post this. Yes, I am one of the three that will be traveling there. I have been to Trinidad carnival several times as well as a number of other carnivals in different places. So I have some experience. This trip will be primarily pan focused as we are going to be there for some of the prelims and for semis, also extempo finals. My husband isn't such a pan fan so isn't coming along. Generally when my husband and myself travel we are home before dark, or at least not late at night. This trip will require some late nights in the panyards, etc. I am not so worried about getting to events but do have some concerns about the trip back at night, even getting to different pan yards during prelims and rehearsals. Mainly because I haven't done that before since it is hard as a tourist to even know where they are. We all play pan, my friends are great pan players at 21. I am adequate and muddle along, just because I love the instrument. I will post my email in case anyone wants to have a private conversation. seawindfelicity@yahoo.com I appreciate your suggestions and comments.

    • Glad to assist Denette, we are expecting a full report upon your return. lol

      • Cecil: You should be an AMBASSADOR for T&T, boy. And the Ghost should be complimented for stepping up BIGTIME.

    • As I think about it, when I initially posted my original thread, I had thought that perhaps it could be an opening to meet up with some WST members in Trinidad who would be going to some of the same pan events. Maybe meet in person at an event or panyard, have a chat, etc.

  • People we did good work here, take ah bow.

  • I believe it was Eric Mannweiler  from Indianapolis, Indiana who is a member of this forum.

He also kept an excellent journal of his experience.

He would be the ideal person to touch bases with.

    Check out his member's page.

    • That's the same person I said Glen

  • BTW - They will be safe. My brother-in-law drives taxi, and he is a very kind, respectable young man. I will also have my brother look out for them; he has already given me the okay. My family has a LOT of clout in Diego Martin, and our guests will be safe, and adaquately accomodated for. If I have to do what Pan Trinbago should be doing for our American peers, I will. I NEED NOTHING IN RETURN!!! (Other than their safe return.) Ghost.

  • It is not my intention to offend anyone but I have a gutt feeling that I should stick with trying to stress the importance of these people safety in T&T.

Not asking for anyone to adopt them.

Not asking for body-guards for them.

Not asking for anyone to feed them.

Just tips on how they should travel so they can watch out for themselves.

When yuh help one pan person yuh help all pan people.

    • We have a member he is white, I think from Illinois (his name spell with a M, something like Mannwella, that is not the name but something like that) went to Trinidad, did not know anyone and he played with Starlift and got around, enjoyed the Hospitality and came back and wrote a book, He can give them some insights bout what to do etc
