JULY/AUGUST is just the right time to have a SECOND MAJOR PAN EVENT every year. The problem is that the production (competition?) should be handled by forces outside of the KEITH DIAZ and PAN TRINBAGO sphere. And it should be financially INDEPENDENT of GOVERNMENT.
How would you design such a STEELBAND SUMMER FESTIVAL?

Great idea! Can we find money to pay the pannists a stipend to attend practice sessions? Or provide the essentials: meals, transportation, and other comfort to humanize their involvement? Or is this already in place for the national Panorama Season?
1) PROVIDE A SPACE, PARTLY COVERED AND UNCOVERED AND ALL STEELBANDS INVITED.
2) PROVIDE CONCESSION FOR EATS AND DRINKS.
3) PROVIDE SECURITY, PARKING AND TOILETS.
4) PROVIDE THE STAGE FOR SEVERAL BAND PER NIGHT TO PERFORM ANY KIND OF MUSIC.
5) PROVIDE THE OPTION FOR PATRONS TO SIT/DINE/DANCE/LIME.
6) PROVIDE SALE OF STEELBAND MERCHANDISE.
7)= STEELBAND SUMMER FESTIVAL......TO BE SOLD TO TV STATIONS.

As I read your very thoughtful responses it became very clear to me that a major part of the solution to all your concerns seems to rest partially, if not totally in what Pan Times has been pushing at us for some time now. And that is success or failure of a major Pan event not be defined by local attendance alone. A quality live broadcast for global consumption will allow for major investors and attract a much, much wider market.

Ajamu, most of the people that make comments here don't live in T&T, the action has to come from those that live in the Mecca. Here is about the only place that I know that talk about pan 24/7, hopefully one day soon we all both foreign and local will see that this medium can be used the move pan forward
Cecil, Ajamu can tell you as an expat his experience producing a pan show in T&T. After Panorama Pan DEAD in T&T.
odw, steelbands in the Mecca has to find a way to keep young people after carnival, if the pans were standard Sunday afternoon blockos could be a good starter, 3 bands get together every Sunday and have a family event moving to different yards each Sunday.
odw: I read this report in the GUARDIAN a few years ago on Dr. Ajamu's PAN PRODUCTION. I am sure that the readers and posters on this forum would like to hear his report on the challenges he faced straight from the horse's mouth Doctor's Mouth.

It's a good idea but the public only support the large bands.
Has any one of the discussants ever produced a pan show in TT independent of Pan Trinbago and the government?
