these myths do have some truth . BOOGSIE is a musical genius but external influences are eroding this. 2017!! just saying
DR SYDNEY NORTHCOTE a renowned Classically trained musician came to Trinidad to adjudicate when Pan competition meant something, his comment was CLASSICS WERE MADE TO BE PLAYED BY PAN, so yes Pan can play any type of music, after all it is a musical instrument !!! DIMACHE GRAS was the greatest but it has lost it way too much foolishness. TRINIDAD CARNIVAL is not at all like Brazil, the Samba schools, and those in the Bahias have themes for which costumes are made yes there are the sexy scantily dressed ladies, who dance, they do not do the simulated sex that seems to dominate Trinidad Carnival and Nottighill Carnival, no class, no culture, no history; no creativity ( some of us are keeping those things alive) Trinidad carnival was the greatest carnival on earth others copied it from England to Europe, that was before it became a bacchanal with the sole purpose to have a sexual orgy on the road

On a less antagonistic note, I want to share something with this forum. Since my very first CARNIVAL and PANORAMA immersion (and at my age I have been to a few Carnivals), I have noticed that I would attend the events and listen to all the music for a day (or days) on end and once the CELEBRATION was over and a day or two had passed -- some refrain or some musical phrase or some chorus would subconsciously replay itself in my mind, above all else. And it is always -- ONLY ONE!!!

This year it was the Chorus from Boogsie Sharpe's RED WHITE AND BLACK. As much as I loved GOOD MORNING and FULL EXTREME.

Go figure!!!

But now ah have ah new concussion (bugs) because ah man come on here and say that I never eat ah mango yet until ah eat Ceylonese grafted mango from Grenada.

All I can say is: When does it come in season?

Boogsie is a very good arranger. I think 'pan, could play anything except trumpet. Dimanche Gras used to be a good show, now there is no show.
Trinidad carnival is not like Brazil carnival. Never was.
Every creed and race find an equal place? Maybe in Barbados.
Starch stiff Julie all the time. That is how the man goes.

1. BOOGSIE is a MUSICAL GENIUS!!! What about Bobby Mohammed? People have a very short memory. Bobby was the first to compose classical music for the pan. He remains an unappreciated virtuoso. Guinness Cavaliers remains unsurpassed.

2. PAN could play ANY KIND AH MUSIC!!! Not really--it has its limitations.

3. DIMANCHE GRAS is the GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH!!! Used to be. Get rid of the DJ trucks. Bring back the brass bands and pan on the road----wishful thinking on my part, I know.

4. TRINIDAD CARNIVAL is just LIKE BRAZIL CARNAVAL now!!! Yes. In fact, the music from the trucks in Brazil is actually better than what is now playing on the trucks in Trinidad. We have screwed up badly.

5. TRINIDAD CARNIVAL is the GREATEST CARNIVAL IN THE WORLD!!! Used to be in the days of Stephen Lee Heung; Mack Copeland, Harold Saldenah, Edmund Hart, and many others. In addition, steelband was an integral component of Carnival; without steelband, better to go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans or Brazil where the music is better.

6. EVERY CREED and RACE find an EQUAL PLACE!!! Not at all--we still have a long way to go.

Julie Mango---overrated--I will put a Ceylonese grafted mango from Grenada above a Julie any day.

What you should have added to your list is Pan Trinbago lead by Rolly Polly is the world governing body of Pan.
