Trinidad Newsday By JULIEN NEAVES
THE ALLOCATION given to the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO) for Carnival 2014 is “woefully short”, president Lutalo “Brother Resistance” Masimba declared yesterday.
He said TUCO would have liked $22 million which would included capital expenditure to establish a permanent building. He noted it was “not the end of the world” and TUCO will find ways to deliver a first class product. He described the continued under funding as not just a disappointment for entertainers but for the nation.
“The State keeps missing the opportunity to embrace and facilitate the Carnival arts,” he added.
Masimba said TUCO was not sure if it was a matter of the State not recognising the value of the Carnival arts or if they are refusing to acknowledge it. He pointed out that there have been many studies which would have indicated how important Carnival is for stimulation of economic activity and this was not “news”.
