Politically, I disagree with this disqualification of Lorna “Fya Empress” Nedd Reid (in this day and age and given the population change in Trinidad). On principle, they should have left FYA EMPRESS in and just added Lady Gypsy to the list (they like long drawn out overproduced shows in Trinidad, anyway). And I am sure that Lady Gypsy coming last -- so what difference does it make. Except for the appearance fee and the lawyer might take half of that.
Sparrow and Bomber and Black Stalin was from Grenada and they all win the crown. Ah had ah whole list of all the Grenadians and Small Island singers once and I lost it along the road of life. But I am sure that there were other singers who won the crown that were not from Trinidad.

Thats correct but she lives in the country. But if Lady Gypsy made finals would she have still done that, The association is to blame also if you know a person isn't from the country why allow them to go through prelims, semis and then they make finals and you turn and tell them they can't.
AFTER being placed as a reserve for the Calypso Monarch finals at Dimanche Gras this coming Sunday, calypsonian Lynette “Lady Gypsy” Steele has been upgraded as a fullfledged finalist after she successfully challenged her exclusion from the list of finalists.
Steele gave the Trinidad Unified Calypsonian Organisation (TUCO) 24 hours to disqualify Lorna “Fya Empress” Nedd Reid as Steele claimed Nedd Reid was not a TT national and therefore not qualified to compete.
Yesterday, Lady Gypsy’s lawyer Gerald Ramdeen wrote TUCO threatening to go to the High Court for an injunction to disqualify Nedd Reid from performing in the finals. Facing litigation, TUCO bowed to Lady Gypsy and upgraded her from reserve to full finalist....
