UKIP scraps 'carnival' to prove it's not racist after steel band refuses to play in front of 'Love Colour' sign and Farage stays away

....The Endurance Steel band, which included black members, told reporters they were 'embarrassed' to be there because they did not think that people should vote for UKIP.

....The party hoped it would be a 'bold and vibrant' event to dismiss criticism that the party is racist, after a torrid week which has seen Mr Farage accused of making offensive comments about Romanians.

But as protesters clashed with party members and Mr Farage failed to turn up, musicians booked to play complained they did not know it involved Ukip - and packed up (pictured right) and left.
