WHAT DIAZ?

Newsday

PANMEN who went to the bank yesterday attempting to cash cheques individually valued at $1,000, left empty-handed and singing a sour tune, after the cheques ‘bounced’ with bank officials saying there was no money to pay them.

This was confirmed by ace pannist Dane Gulston and came hours after PanTrinbago president Keith Diaz promised the nation, via a television morning talk show, that $1,000 owed to thousands of panmen, as playing fees for the 2016 Panorama competition, would be paid. Gulston said he intends to lead another protest of panmen while PanTrinbago executives hold an emergency meeting tomorrow at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah.

“Today (Keith) Diaz came on air ‘live’ and said cheques will be given out today. Yesterday (Wednesday) in a meeting when we had the march…people collected their cheques at their regional offices and when they went to the bank, the cheques were not honoured,” Gulston yesterday said. The pan organisation, Gulston added, hastily ran and issued the cheques without saying the money was not yet deposited in that account.

  • Apparently the regional offices should not have given out the cheques so soon, according to the excuse, but to give out cheques without money in the bank is fraud punishable by the law.

So in anticipation of receiving this year's (2017) subvention, PT was planning to pay 2016 debt with that money meaning that 2017 dues will not be paid as well.

The pan players will be in the same position after 2017 Panorama, until PT receives 2018 subvention.

    Time to break the circle.

    Lawsuit!

    • Wayne, I totally agree with your comment.  Robbing Peter to pay Paul!!

  • Express pg 7 Forteau said. "People were not following instructions" What instructions? You issue cks, money should be in the bank, period. There are no instructions needed to cash cks. Then he says, as per Express we are conducting a transaction with one bank and it has to issue money to all other branches . IT IS A PROCESSTHAT WOULD HAVE TAKEN A LITTLE TIME. People did not get it right. That's right the PEOPLE screwed up, not PanTrinbago.
It does not even take a little time, that's b.s., everything's computerized so monies do not have to be issued to other branches. Are they using horseback and saddle bags to transport money to other branches?

I am no banking specialist, and I have no money, all I have is a little common sense . You cannot and should not issue checks without money in the bank. End of story.
    • Patrick Ramdoo: They was SUPPOSED to be getting the money but somebody pulled the plug. One might say that they DO NOT WANT DIAZ in office any more.

    • Patrick, it looks like PT are issuing cheques on an account that has no money, hence the request NOT to cash the cheques!!  It's just a ploy to get rid of pan men.  Once again, PT (and I mean the whole Executive body) are fooling the pan men.
