  • Mr. Gray, why do we have to read and spell for some of the commentators?. If the 1st and 2nd place bands in the semis were clearly ahead and in the judges opinion fell down on the final night and seeing that after the scores of six bands were posted and they played in position 2 and 4 and it shows that they are now 4th, 5th or 6th definitely out of the top three as in the semis, the passion pan people have for this this will cause problems.I am not detailing anything. thousands like me who are around and involved with pan and steelbands know exactly what I'm saying and agree.

I'm not responding to any more comments on this . Who want to sleep under a rock, could snore.

  • Yes ... in my days [late 1970s], bands/arrangers got a page-by-page breakdown of each piece performed, both in Panorama and in the "classical" Festival. Why would it be so difficult to require the same today?  They do it in figure-skating competition, among other sports.  Is it sheer laziness on the part of either Pan Trinbago or the judges themselves?  I would really like to know.

  • After a band performs, the score sheets are taken and entered. Judges no longer have all the score sheets up to the end as in the past( and that has been so for a while now) so one cannot go back to band number 4 or 5 and change/alter anything after band number 6."When all yuh ready to try dis business of score right after yuh play...I staying home."

  • Yes I agree 100% each band should be given their points right after their performance, so that they will know how they did and there would be no chance of anyone altering the scores. a loyal long time steelpan lover.

  • Mr. Gerard Clarke, can you call me at (954) 792-1879.

                                                                                      Sincerely,

  • I was using a bit of diplomacy to comment on this but I see Eustace and Cumberbatch have spelt(or is it pelt?) it out.

  • What utter rubbish. So you fools want to have a riot before Panorama is completed.Have you noticed that as a society we have taken many steps backwards? We are nearly back to the days of pan wars, guess folks would like to hurry up the by gone era.STOP THE COMPETITION ,let the bands play for an appearance fee, have a grand steelband party and all steelband lovers would /should enjoy.

  • Not a good idea or maybe in retrospect it might help eliminate bias I remember looking at some Carib Tokyo scores in Ray Holman times and here is the scores. 96,95,97,94,92,63,65.
Picture what would have happened if that was flashed on a screen immediately (riot )but then again the two judges who scored in the 60's would not have done that.
Still it is a bad idea bias will alllways be where opinion is a factor bands and arrangers should be given awards instead of this merit system of 1st & 2nd etc it can be best arrangement, best frontline, bass section etc the standard might even raise
  • The way scores are tabulated, the wait is not really long.To respond to Patrick, it's not about society being civilized or uncivilized, but acceptance that your band is in 4th or 5th place after band no. 6 has played, could open up a situation. Let me say what I witnessed one year when a certain band felt that they were definite winners of the panorama and were placed second. The captain and some others, surrounded a judge and questioned their not winning and the captain spat in the woman's face in front of us.Our civilized behaviour has improved immensely, but I want 100%

  • Cecil,

This idea would have been fine if panorama was an individual contest. The anticipation of waiting for the results is what makes me excited at panorama.  There will be much, much heartache too early for many, many players if scores are placed soon after performing. Players, fans and patronts may depart the big yard much, much more earlier if their bands' scores are not favourable.  Maybe we can ask the two cell phone companies in Trinbago to sponsor a peoples choice.                                                                                                         We lay judges can text our scores. (lol)  May the best performers be successful at panorama 2012.                    I would not challenge the Real Judges decisions.
