WHAT DO YOU THINK?

After watching the Youth steelbands yesterday I think every large band should have a youth band and use a inhouse Youth arranger, this could be a good opportunity for young arrangers to master their skills and a good addition to panorama.

  • I believe the same vibe we get before the final of the big bands, could be had if all the big bands had  youth bands competing.

  • Thanks Cecil, just do my job.

  • Cecil your point is work in progress, more and more bands are forming junior bands and an alliance with neighbouring schools to send pupils to learn. The number of young pan players is growing and so is their musical literacy and they are given opportunities to do arrangements among their peers which will help them to grow and move on.

    • Gerard,

Glad to hear this, it will bring a whole new dimension to panorama. By the way I heard you name called is the TUNER for one of those bands on Sunday I think congratulations are in order.

  • I think that GAVIN SMITH should present this proposal at the TOWN HALL MEETING.

  • It's the same concept being used in the Barclay Premier League. It makes a lot of sense. Don't think about negatives, just look at the long term positive effect. By the way, I really enjoyed the Junior Panorama, let's all work to keep those smiles on the children faces.

    • Sherwin,

This is one way to keep young people focused, use the pan yards to keep them IN PAN.

  • That's  wisdom. the only way to ensure continuity in aspect of culture in any nation is by passing it on to the next generation, and it has to begin at a tender age so they grow to appreciate it. no question.

  • It would make logical sense but and this is the case with most functioning band but they are over looked when competitions come up. Listen to Steelband times by Andre tanker. I am a young arranger.
  • I think every band should have a youth stage side, an adult stage side (for professional licensed gigs), an all-star recording side, and a combined Panorama side.
