... that could win the hearts of MUSIC LOVERS around THE WORLD. All the while I have to listen to stories about all THE MUSICAL GENIUSES on THE ISLAND. Personally, I cannot point to ONE PAN PLAYER in TRINIDAD who could perform a piece of music that I could listen to and say: That would work on THE OUTSIDE.
And when it comes to MUSICAL COMPOSITION -- they are like at ZERO FOR ME.
This breaks my heart, because if you are a REAL TRINIDADIAN and you are a REAL CALYPSO LOVER you hear such beautiful CALYPSO IDIOMS embedded in some of the CALYPSOS that you have to wonder how people could call themselves musical geniuses when they cannot even identify the essence and soul of their OWN MUSICAL LANGUAGE and build THREE MINUTES of the characteristic mode of our musical expression spiced with a little bit of POP or MAINSTREAM or JAZZ nuance while staying true to what we are and sending the essence of the CALYPSO and the PAN to music lovers around the world.
I still believe that we LACK THE MUSICAL TALENT and until some LOCAL PERFORMER proves me wrong ... I have to live with my perception of the crisis as being correct. I see all these LOCAL PAN PLAYERS being so highly rated on all these SOCIAL MEDIA sites by culturally starved EXPATS who should really know better but who have to blend in with the crowd for acceptance -- and I would not give a minute of LISTENING TIME to any of these FALSE PAN PROPHETS. Because in the world of PAN MUSIC in which I LIVE -- they don't even know HOW TO PLAY THE PAN ... they are yet to learn that THE PAN is NOT A PIANO.
But that is another discussion!!!
