Word on the ground is, there is a real shortage of players. Players say they just don't have the vibes this year. Translation - the young people are pissed that Rolly Polly stole their Christmas money in the first place. Players need to see someone go to jail.

Bugs the problem is not and never was a shortage of players....the problem is that there are suddenly far too many bands...the hustle at Panorama is a very sophisticated thing, especially in the Single Pan and Small band category...Several crackshot "Crews" have cropped up all over the Steelband landscape..."Crews" that go from band to band "taking Panorama tunes"...(I don't know what they do with these tunes when the "take" them, but it's all part of the Panorama hustle)...also factor in "Swapping" where maybe larger "crews" go hunting for "bands that don't have players"...to assist them in their quest for Panorama glory...Then you will get the real picture of why there seems to be a shortage of players...It has much less to do with the proposed cut in players remittance for 2017 that you would imagine...

Great, I always say scrap the categories, maybe the change will come.
Payers are waiting to see/hear what will happen about Panorama, Pan Trinbago and the pan in general. No point rushing out to practice if the whole thing is coming crashing down.
With only a few days to 'prelims' in the panyards, bands might not have their full complement of players but as soon as the dust clears and everyone is sure what's happening, the players will come out of the woodwork to play.
In any case maybe it's time to reduce the number of players in the large band category, which will mean more bands can qualify and there will not be the dearth of players that some are complaining about.

Here is the REAL TRUTH!!! With the NCC managing the FINANCES this year, players are not going to be allowed to double, triple and quadruple DIP times $1000. Is ONE MAN ONE CHECK this 2017.
So men are signing up with ONE BAND and ONE BAND only. Hence the shortage!!!
It's not one or the other-it's both: 'vex-and-gone-home' AND 'no-doubles'. So both you and bugs are correct.
Maybe it's time for a 'Steupsorama', I leave you to set up the judging criteria,clarity, tonal quality etc. The one definitely missing: 'spirit of carnival".
Lilian: I tried listening to the SINGLE PAN BANDS and it just seems as if they have bleached out all the CALYPSO SPIRIT OF CARNIVAL from the songs.
