According to an article by Sean Douglas in the Trinidad and Tobago Newsday today, Tuesday, March 17, 2015, “Legal action involving the State for a period of almost four years has cost the country’s taxpayers some $343 million.”
I also remember Brian Copeland commenting that, with respect to the G-pan and PHI patents, only lawyers benefit from innovation and invention efforts in T&T.
If it is indeed true that lawyers reap the benefits of litigation, who are the lawyers that benefitted from the lawsuit brought by Pan Trinbago against the New Visionairies? More importantly, who funded the lawsuit and subsequent appeal? Does anyone know?

Ajamu Nyomba; Brian R. Copeland got a "Nerve" to be commenting, as he / they haven't payed their U.S. Attorneys where in 2005, Copeland acquired a $34,5 million U.S. dollars, when they don't say TTD's, it's U.S, for Williams / SNSE big tenor pan with the 4ths & 5ths technology, which Copeland called his alleged G-pan, and his PHI - pan which he also forged from "Salmon Cupid" of Canada, in the October 2014 budget, it was disclosed the $4,7 million U.S. has been paid to SOMEONE, for the steel patent, allegedly owned by the T&T Government the Assignee, and Brian R. Copeland Inventor, as patent's "CANNOT" be transfered, nor can "A GOVERNMENT " be the reciptient of a patent, a Copyright "YES, a Patent NO", and NO ONE, can patent the same identical item, after it has already been patented any part of the world, it's an International Copyright / Patent Law, nor can anyone reproduce an item without written permission of it''s author / owner / inventor...
Hello Leslie .. remember this? Still waiting ....
ORDER- Brian Copeland v SNSE dated 26-6-2014.pdf
Brian Copeland, are you saying that SNSE is Liable to you in the sum of $10,000.00 providing the Case isn't Appeal?
Cecil,
This place is a gangsta paradise, the legal mafia and the corrupt officials are all in it together.
If you get a chance to look through the PDF report you'll get an insight into how the funding and payment arrangements are handled. Millions of dollars in contractual agreements with questionable results. Pan Trinbago headquarters funding and other Pan related info makes good reading.
Here’s my take on this, it may not be the answer you want but the party in power control the purse strings, Pan Trinbago as a government entity gets funding for its legal defense from the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism and approved by the AG office. There’s no public accounting for these expenses unless they are required by the opposing party in government to provide the information.
Who gets paid and how much will have to be made from a formal request for the interested party or parties. Pan and Politics go hand in hand in T&T.

odw,I think you owe fellow posters and myself an apology, brother.I have read through the reports ( of posted link ) and I cannot find any information to suggest the GROTT directly pays the costs of legal fees for any one of the stakeholders arms ie: TUCO, NCBA or Pan Trinbago.
The only mention of legal fees was made by a member of the NCBA questioning the some odd $800,000 legal fees racked up by the NCBA,headed by Mr Lopez.
However Ajamau Nyomba question,is a very valid one.
odw,Pan Trinbago is NOT a government entity.
Pan Trinbago Inc., is a non-profit body incorporated in Trinidad and Tobago dedicated to the promotion and development of the steelpan and pannists worldwide.
Oswald,
My apologies if my statement sounds mis-leading, what I said is "my take on this" the funding comes from the ministry and who calls on the Minister when the bills have to be paid for legal defense or budgetary expenses.
As a non-profit body what are the rules on public disclosure for its annual budget and accountability.
odw
The rules on public disclosures of annual budget and accountability would be the same as any entity ( NGOs,Sport bodies, etc) that receives GROTT grants and/or subventions. They are required to account to the relevant ministry for the moneys provided by the GROTT,but they are not required to publicize their accounts.
As far as the PAC report goes, one would see that the Auditor General's Department does not have the capacity to check the books of the many entities that falls within their (AGD's) purview in a timely and efficient manner.
I would suspect that the legal fees for the court matters would have been paid by Pan Trinbago, from it's own coffers. This may be from bands annual registration and the 10% of band take from panorama, carnival payments....profit from the Greens, might be another source.
Making statements without having the facts can be very counter productive,so until I have all the facts,I cannot honestly answer Ajamu question.
Excellent argument.
