I will really like to know what is the criteria/qualifications to become a panorama judge. I have been following all the preliminaries closely and I keep seeing the same set of judges every year.In fact in the medium bands judging ,out of the seven judges there was six women and one man and these judges are in their sixties and upwards. We all know that quite a lot of bands have been judged unfairly in the past and the talk all over is that they allways robbing the south/central bands in the large category. We all know that the Judges decision is final so we will like to know who exactly are these judges and what was their contributions towards the steelpan. The last thing we need in panorama 2017 is controversial judging.

  • My response to the prelim score sheet speak words ! The judging panel need to be interrogated by a qualified musical group as to how they came up with these scores when everyone could see that Trinidad All Stars and Exodus were the two best bands in the prelims. The way things look is that we heading for the same set of bands in the top five bands like the previous years. I am upset and talk is cheap. !

  • Arthur: Look dem judges put DESPERADOES in first place -- do you believe that!

  • Arthur: There is really NO PANORAMA COMPETITION this year. Too many arrangers are doing too many different things to really compare them to each other. Robert is in one direction and Mia is in another direction and Boogsie looked to the future of the music and Smooth is doing what he always does and Zanda is all over the place, desperate to retain the title and EXODUS went pure HARD CORE CARNIVAL JAM and Duvone always comes third and Professor always loses and Amrit -- well, I don't think that he could win.

Looks to me like EXODUS is in a PANORAMA COMPETITION all by themselves and the other bands are in a PANORAMA MUSIC FESTIVAL.

  • I ran into some veteran pan men from town this morning in Brooklyn and they told me that this topic about Judges might be too sensitive for some members of this forum. I wonder why ! Curious ! But I suspect that most of the comments so far are drifting away from the topic. But let's be serious because big changes are coming after Panorama 2017.

  • Pan Trinbago assign all judges.

    • Cecil: Like BJ MARCELLE take some kinda SPECIAL PILL, boy. WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!!! Ah going back and listen to it again!!!

      • BJ and Duvone "tusty" for a win in the big yard.

  • Arthur: After listening to EXODUS play GOOD MORNING -- I can assure you that A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE are going to be UNHAPPY with the FINAL RESULTS on PANORAMA NIGHT.

I AM SPELLBOUND with chills running through my whole body!!!

    • I too was impressed Claude and I don't want to sound bias because I have family members(on my mother side) in XO. My mother and some cousins who live in Barateria was there for their fantastic performance last night. What more could you expect when you have two of the best veteran arrangers in Pellam Goddard and Terrance BJ Marcelle working together.

      • Arthur: Look how much we have in common. My mother was from ST. JOHN and a big part of the  early FLAMINGOS and EXODUS players were (and are) FAMILY MEMBERS.

But I don't have an EXODUS BIAS. If they play good, they play good.

This performance, however, was UNBEATABLE to me. Especially (and I repeat "especially") because they put SO MUCH CALYPSO in the GOOD MORNING. I like plenty CALYPSO & JAM in my PANORAMA PERFORMANCES and EXODUS delivered that!!
