REMEMBERED: Lord Woodbine

The Trinidadian music promoter, often referred to as the sixth Beatle, will be celebrated at an event taking place on his birthday

AN EVENT hosted by the Windrush Foundation will take place this month, celebrating the life of the late Lord Woodbine.

The Trinidadian music promoter served Britain in WW11, was demobbed by the RAF after 1945 but returned on the Empire Windrush in June 1948 and settled in Liverpool.

Known then as calypsonian Lord Woodbine, he was the first mentor of The Beatles and also founded the Royal Caribbean Steel Orchestra, the first steel orchestra formed in England.
