Hi guys, I write from Trinidad, West Indies...a pannist for over 30 years...niece of one of the earlies steelband organization's leaders, author of "40 Years of Steelband", George Goddard (dec'd). I observe in the offerings that Brooklyn, New York, still echoes the concerns of the 'Mecca of Pan'. Taking care of older or ill pannists -- pension etc. The noise pollution emanating from these precious instruments PAN -- Pulsating Amazing and Noble, yet the instrument still baffles the WORLD. I try to farthom why in the 21st century we still grapple with these ideologies. I have been advocating for over two decades now (seemingly in another world!) that pan expands way beyond just music but should we positively adjust our attitude, the music will create $b endorsements similar to the greats of basketball, soccer, boxing, the hip-hop and classical genres etc. What is the problem?....lack of proper education; lack of recognising and applying good education; lack of meaningful vision; being subjective, tunnel vision and lack of receptiveness. What are the core-valus of the pan fraternity in the 21st century?
