Terry played a major role in spreading knowledge and understanding of steelband music including visits to 33 countries throughout the world with his steel bands. He visited countries as diverse as Pyongyang in North Korea, several countries in the Middle East, Russia and neighbouring countries, Australia as well as many countries in Europe. He has been a Steelband Adviser for over 30 years and, among other things, was instrumental in setting up a school steelband for the English Speaking School in Doha (DESS) in Qatar by the provision of instruments, tuning, workshops and advice. He provides ongoing advice and workshops for the school. In 1976 Terry's first book “From Bamboo to Pan” was published by the Commonwealth Institute in London. His second book was “Play Pan - Learn Music The Steel Pan Way" and was co Authored by Dr Jill Scarfe and published by Trentham Books. The book was launched in Trinidad by the Honourable Pam Nicholson, Minister of Education in Trinidad in 1988. This book is now the main text book for the Steel Pan Exams Grades 1 - 8. The exams were put together by Dr Jill Scarfe, David Griffiths and Terry Noel and are accredited by the Open Learning College. The exam is provided under the umbrella of the PRSSV. Terry has received numerous awards and commendations in both Trinidad and the UK including: • Having a street named after him in the Royal Borough of Arima in Trinidad • Receiving a Trinidad and Tobago High Commission London Award for Outstanding and Meritorious Service in 2004 • Awarded an MBE in the New Years’ Honours 2015 for Music for the Melodians Steel Orchestra UK which he set up in 1987 and has been the Leader ever since.
