Bon Voyage. This summer I'm getting my daughter ready for Univ. No vacation this year.Wish him the best .

I think you're correct about Ancil Wyatt as guitarist with Norman "Tex" Williams, Gons. I did not see it myself but I had heard this before.

As a matter of fact, Norman "Tex" had a hit back then with a screaming guitar called "Che Che Merengue", remember?

It was said that the guitarist on that record was Ancil Wyatt.

Of course, I can't verify any of this, just reporting what I had heard)

Gons ,I will listen to your music since it's what I enjoy and appreciate. I am writing my memoirs and I am recollecting and glad to meet others who share some of the memories from growing up in TnT. I am grateful for the music and memories from WST and Glenroy.

    • Glenroy R Joseph July 10, 2013 at 1:16pm

BTW, Gons, I just wanted to correct an earlier post. I knew Earl Lezama well, he was a very skilled, very technical guitarist with a quirky personality and a distinct style.

A friend from Marabella called Louie Bryce took up the guitar in the sixties and started a combo with Earl as lead guitarist.

I remember how Earl taunted and insulted Louie as he struggled to master the guitar.

Louie eventually became a pretty good guitarist after Earl moved on.

Earl never played with the Clarence Curvan Orchestra.

After Ron Berridge left Clarence's band to form his own band, the Ron Berridge orchestra, Earl Lezama was his first guitarist.

if you listen to Ron's early music you would detect Earl's style, which was very different from Freddie Harris who was Clarence Curvan's most featured guitarist.

      Greetings Winston

I went to San F'do Methodist then Naps and San F'do Tech in '56. My boyhood friend Ronald Narine(now Naraine) went to Grant. His bro Allan went there also and then Pres. I mentioned that because he did beat with Maestros (Sea Bees). You would know the Lalsinghs.( Nerlin lived opposite them.) Steve Lalsingh was my wife's (now EX) cousin

However I grew up literally on the Coffee, and limed at Tookies but a lot more often at "Philberts". I got married to Lynda in '67 and moved to Canada( Wpg) in Jan '68 then moved to"TO" in '70. I now reside in Dallas since '84. I was curious about if I knew you as well, Your name reminded me of Winston Dindial who had a Combo called The Young Ones.

My Stepfather ( Peppy) was a barber at the shop where Antilleans yard was.I played mas with him when I lived with my Mum on Lower Hillside.I actually started playing Wild Indian with Mac Copeland 's older brothers when I was 5 and was the youngest and first  in Sando in '47.Back in the day we put on a display when we would meet other Indians at Coffee and Drayton. Mikey Babwah, Vin and Mickey Cardinal and Hendy Cooper started playing  with us in the early '50s.

When Hendy went on his own Courtney Gomes started with him ,then Mickey Ali joined Hendy later on.They were my boyhood friends since '49.

We played one year with Rudolph Belgrove and we were in "Free French " steel band.Rudolph was my Uncle in law and a  master wire bender who later on brought out King Sailor bands.

Mas and Football and Track were how I spent my youth among other things. My older Bro grew up in POS and started with Satisfiers and Ancil Joseph then Dem Fortunates.

He joined Pan Am and played Tenor in the Music Festival when they won and Guinness placed 3rd. He toured with the band was the band Sec and toured and was on Ivory and Steel  and Clair de Lune with Winnifred Atwell. I will share more if you need to have more memories. I have limed at a lot of pan yards but never had the time to learn but enjoy it very much.I played with Bobby and Selwyn Mohammed before they started Gondoliers and Cavs.I listened to Melody Makers,Sundowners,Hatters, and Fonclaire( Wire went to Tech when I was there).Georgey Donawa and Tony Blackman were long time friends.

      Gons,

No, I did not put my gender on the profile, as I was not thinking of this site

as a social network thing.  However, I am an American woman, retired teacher,  who has traveled to Trinidad and other places in the Caribbean and LOVE MUSIC, esp. pan.

Was last in Trinidad when Phase II played This one's for you Bradley and also

enjoyed being in Grenada last summer for their panorama--New Dimensions were

fabulous then and hopefully they will be on top again this year...since they

got 1st for bomb tune this year.  Just wish I could have heard a video of that tune

this year !  So enjoy hearing the videos & audios that WST members submit.

Thanks for the Phase II one today...I was in Trinidad once before...think it was

1996, but unfortunately...missed the panorama. Was too green at the time to know

where and what to do.  But WST has helped me learn a lot, in a few years.

Have plans to be in Trinidad next panorama hopefully.

      Michaele

      Hello there Winston,

Not sure we 'know' each other, Gons, but glad to talk to you...make a friend, and be able to learn more about pan, etc.  Have been on this site, WST, for quite a while now and have learned so much. of course I am in love with pan.
