This disturbing report came in Wednesday morning...
When Steel Talks has been informed that steelpan instruments and equipment belonging to New York's Crossfire Steel Orchestra have gone missing from their off-season storage site. The steel orchestra was led and founded by the late Martin "Dougie" Douglas.
We were told that earlier this month Douglas' wife received a message from the Brooklyn Navy Yard indicating that CrossFire's instruments and stands would have to be moved by month's end.
And on Monday of this week Dougie's wife went to remove the articles from the Navy Yard. Upon arriving at the location she observed that some instruments and Pan stands were missing.
This story is developing - but it appears the identity of those responsible may be known. This is indeed unusual for the normally close-knit New York steelpan music community.
Needless to say, Mrs. Douglas is said to be hurt, distraught and disappointed. Members within the community have also expressed concern and shock.
More to come on this developing story...
