Trinidad & Tobago Steelband Panorama 2013

Global - Couva Joylanders came in at position one at the conclusion of the National Panorama Medium conventional steel orchestra preliminaries.  The band from South/Central earned 260 points for its rendition of “Band from Space” arranged by Kenneth “Panam” Clarke.

 

Defending champions Katzenjammers from the sister isle of Tobago amassed 252 points for their performance of “Keshorn – The Javelin Champion.”

 

The fourteen semi-finalists in this category will share the Queen’s Park Savannah stage with seventeen Large steel orchestras on Sunday 27 January, from 12 noon.

 

Tickets for the Semi Finals aka “Savannah Party” went on sale on Monday at the Ticket Booth, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, and Atherly’s, Sutton Street in San Fernando. Tickets are in the range of TT $300.00 to TT $350.00 for the North Stand, North Greens and Grand Stand.

    Can you name one memorable piece of panorama music that people still talk about that came out of the medium category and people still play and talk about? Can you name one medium band that is better than the eight or ten large band finalist? 

    The only medium band prior to this year who thought they were good enough was Silver Stars. They moved up into the large category and won. This year Humming Birds has moved up into the large category. Let's see how they do.

    The reality is the medium category is a failed experiment. Look at the state of pan before introduction of categories and now. This is has been a killer on the panorama experience.

    The reality is the medium bands left to avoid licks. It's a payday for them. Can you imagine the Knicks leaving the NBA to join the European league because they haven't won a championship in 30 years.

    Time to get rid of the categories. If you can't make,  stay out of the kitchen and become something else.
