July 27, 2023 to August 8, 2023
Antigua's CarnivalWhen you think about Antigua, the first thing that comes to mind is the opulent, tropical climate, and the sweet majestic scent of the all year round ocean breeze. While this touristic destination is pleased to boast about its 365 beaches, one step on the coral sand is merely the beginning of its wide product offerings. I met Orthello and Leroy the tuner  in Fort Lauderdale in the middle 80; at that time Orthello was playing every weekend at a Jazz club on Sunrise Blvd Ft Lauderdale; and the club was always packed with Jazz lovers; he also played the piano; he is a musical jenius here at that time; I never really heard his name mentioned or associated with any of the local bands in Trinidad but I know he is one of the greatest I have ever heard on a tenor.

He has been involved with the steel pan instrument for over twenty-six years and hails originally from southern Trinidad.

Memorable Moments in MOP’s Five-A-Side Steelband Competition

Posted on January 8, 2009 at 3:00pm 0 Comments

Antigua & Barbuda, W.I. - The ‘Five-A-Side’ competition - a favorite element of the annual Moods of Pan (MOP) steelband festival - did not field in 2008 the plethora of participants as in the past. But the crowd on hand (pictured) undeniably had a very full evening of great music and overall entertainment dished out not only by the eventual two Five-A-Side competitors, Musical Youth and Golden Hands, but also the invited artistes.

Moods of Pan is hosted by one of… Continue

Pan Fan Extremely Disappointed with Pan Trinbago's 2009 Steelband Panorama Changes

Posted on January 6, 2009 at 11:28am 0 Comments

This year's music festival was the limit of my disappointment with the management, creativity and initiative of Pan Trinbago. having recently learnt about the new arrangements for this year's activities only deepened my disillusionment with this body. why separate the finals and alienate the medium bands? what is the organization saying? that only the large bands are worthy of the final night accolades on carnival Saturday? is that because the "big wigs" have vested interests which they need to… Continue
