Musician, performer, composer and educator Andy Akiho does not rest when it comes to the thrill of his life - music. Well-versed on chamber and conventional orchestra instruments, he has a special passion for his primary instrument - the steel pan. Akiho incorporates the steel pan into many of his compositions for Contemporary Classical Music, fusing the unique timbres of the pan with traditional western instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass, etc.). click for more https://whensteeltalks.ning.com/video/synesthesia-suite-works-for

Very interesting combinations of orchestral melodic percussion timbres such as vibrophone, tubular bells and steelpan - love the idea! It works. I love the way it drifts into the Caribbean influenced jazz from the surprising opening of experimental music. It makes the ending more appreciated. There is definitely room for this music in the classical genre. Sheila James, music education writer - http://publishmenow.co.uk/authorinfocus/sj1.asp
Ditto on Michelle's comments. That was exactly my initial reaction.
Then words like imaginative, unique, futuristic came to mind.
The work of a modern day musical genius.
I do look forward though, to seeing a wider range of pans incorporated in these contempory classical compositions, instead of only the lead instrument.
I would love to see the unique sounds of the mid range pans more fully utilised..
Call me old fashion, call me anything you want but I know music and I know what I like.
Arty Farty noise is not my thing. It has never floated my boat and probably never will.
JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW FAR-REACHING AND VERSATILE PAN MUSIC IS......NEVERTHELESS, IT IS OURS, LET'S HOLD ON TO IT. YEAH, BE SELFISH IF YOU WANT, FOR THIS IS HOW THINGS ARE STOLEN AND RECLAIMED.
OMG.....I love this now if only I can see this in person.:-) No lie this brought tears to my eyes, I took it in that deep.... Andy Akiho........music....
