In Trinidad, to be considered a "good dancer" in the dancehalls of 1960's, one had to be skilled at several different genres and tempos of music. The dance bands of the day were up to the challenge, and it was not unusual for a band to include a fox trot, bolero or cha-cha-cha in a dance set, along with traditional calypso arrangements. This popular Clarence Curvan Orchestra arrangement challenged the skills of the dancers by featuring several tempo changes. From the album "Body and Soul", here is the Clarence Curvan orchestra and "A tribute to Carlos"This was a Ron Berridge arrangement.

  • Thank you, Roy for that information.

I didn't know that this song was composed by Carlos Malcolm.

Even though Byron Lee became more famous, many people(including Clarence Curvan) felt that the Carlos Malcolm band was the best in the Caribbean in that era.

I remember the impact they created when the first visited Trinidad in the early sixties. They were incredible, and were mostly responsible for generating great respect for Jamaican musicians in Trinidad, even before reggae became popular,
