From the 1965 Desperadoes Steel Orchestra Album "Carnival in Trinidad", here is a sweet Beverly Griffith arrangement of Lord Kitchener's "Hold on to your man".Notice a trend here folks? Whatever decade of pan in the twentieth century, you find steelbands playing Lord Kitchener's music.There is no question as to why some of us hold his contributions to steelband music in such high esteem!

    And people wonder why we say the judges don't know JACK S - - - when Despers don't place in the top 3 at least.

    Yes,1966 was the crowning glory for Despers [TRIPLE CROWN WINNERS], when they took Panorama [Melda], Bomb competiton [Czardas] and Music Festival.  Then they produced the album with Flight of the Bumble Bee, Maria, Excerpts from the Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, etc.

    And Beverly actually won Panorama the next year (1966, among several others) with Desperadoes version of Sparrow's "Melda (Obeah Wedding)", all the while playing a mean piano and arranging for the Clarence Curvan orchestra!

    He is definitely one of the most accomplished Trinidad musicians from that or any era.

    jus imagine, from 1965 to now, approx.46 years, and Mr. Griffith is still active in the arena of arranging steel band music at the panorama level.Quite an achievement.Is there anyone from that era/age that is still active in the 'panorama  ring'?
