Guinness Cavaliers- Lord Melody's "Mas" ( T&T Steelband Panorama winners 1965)

Guinness Cavaliers Steel Orchestra created steelband history when they became the first "south' band to win the T&T National Steelband Panorama with this Lennox "Bobby" Mohamed arrangement of Lord Melody's "Mas".

This abbreviated 45 rpm recording is slower than the panorama performance, but it still has that Cavaliers sound.

It is the only recording that I'm aware of.

Thanks GRJ. Imagine since 1965 to now some ah dem tong folks still kar accept dis Historic Guinness Cavaliers Glorious Victory . After this performance the entire rhythm of the Panorama was changed, every section of the Band was now highlighted in the arrangements and there was now a full sound during the performances as the number of players were doubled . The Bases were no longer played as a dudup but its full potential was explored and the engine room was not one constant beat again but had its arrangements also. Man those were the grand days of Panorama when the teak fences on both sides of the drag would come tumbling down as soon as those Black Pans with the Golden Harps start to rumble for that's the band the crowd waited on. They simply mesmerized the Savannah. How fortunate am I to have been there .

Thanks Glenroy, for posting this historic Panorama winning tune by Cavaliers.. Lord Melody's "Mas" is one of the

most difficult tunes to locate but I feel confident it will soon become available.

From my recall, Cavaliers had a loud booming sound with plenty of bass, but it does not sound so on the record.  I gather the live version from Panorama would have been significantly different. I remember everyone talking about the performance of this South band in the preliminaries.

I have been trying to hear this recording for a longtime.  I would like to hear Melody singing the tune too if you have it.  Thanks so much!
