  Today is the birthday of the late, great Aldwin Roberts Lord Kitchener, and we remember and celebrate his contributions to our beloved art form, the calypso. Even to the end, he was a true calypsonian, and this composition from his last album is proof.

  Lord Kitchener "Kitch wey yuh doing (that have you looking so young)". .

  Recorded in the year 2000, this was one of The Grand Master's last hits, and one wonders if somehow ,with this ironic comment on his youthful appearance, he knew that his end was near.

  
  Lord Kitchener passed away on  February 11th, 2000.

  Yes. Glenroy. That is a question a lot of us here in Washington DC have for Bede Lopez. Every time you see this man looking younger and younger, you ask yourself "Bede wey yuh doing that have you looking so young.?"  Papa Neza is gone, and Shep Isaac Lindsay is no longer with us. So what is it?  Care to tell me the secret?  Is it in Belmont, or Moruga, or Princes town?  Just whisper it to me next time we meet, and I will not squeal or even whistle.  My family joins me in wishing you long life and prosperity. Happy Easter, and thanks for sharing your seemingly endless knowledge of the Culture with the rest of us. God Bless.

  I was standing on Independence Square , right infront of the Express office waitng for a partner when over the radio in the car the news came "The Lord Kitchener has passed away". When my partner came out of the Express and I told him he said " I did not know kitchie was ill". Apparently a lot of people did not know either because he looked sooooo  young. But what happened that afternoon realy had me scratching my head .A whole bunch of people , and I ended up being one of them , bought Playweh ticket  " deadman " and the number came in . I will never forget and continue to play The Grandmaster music. Soooooo  good .

  I can't help giving Bede the same picong that the "nice little brown skin lady " gave to Kitch:

  ..........Bede ah have to tell you , like yuh sleeping upside dong"
