Dr Dawn Batson is an accomplished musician and educator, and one of the leading proponents of the steelband worldwide. As a young woman in Trinidad, Dr Batson got involved with the steelband at a time when such participation was still frowned upon by many in the middle class. She has been a conductor, composer, commentator, arranger and adjudicator of steelbands, and has left and indelible mark on the steel pan scene. Here she is (wearing a conductor's jacket) conducting Pamberi Steel Orchestra at Pan is Beautiful IV (1986) as they perform Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring".
