Even I felt bad for Despers when Smooth dropped their own Hammer on them.
I look forward to the ultimate test when Trinidad All Stars takes a Len Boogise Sharpe piece to the Rama We took a Silver Stars piece (Showtime) a Despers piece (Hammer) an Exodus piece (Dust In Your Face)in addition to pieces from the likes of Crazy,Sparrow, no-name Carwash, Defosto, Trini,Chris Tambu Herbert, and finally this year Clive (Cokie) Telemarque. Certainly by far the widest selection from diffrent composers over the years.With the HATTRICK on tap for 2013 I look forward for the ultimate head to head clash and the eventual silencing of all the critics

If you've ever read any of my postings on related subjects,you'd know that I'm a big fan of Leon "Smooth" Edwards.
Screwed up now noticed some some mis spellings should read 8 second positions placings 6 third position placings
To answer your qustion betweeen 1980 and 2012 the GREAT Leon Smooth Edwards and Trinidad All Sars placead a total of 20 times in the top three wit 8 seconp placings and 6 thrd placings yet still lots of pan folks seems to over look Smooth when talking about arrangers and mention the likes of Proffssor, Ray Holman Robbie etc. its time we start giving him his credit he has paid his dues.
IMHO, a one point difference on a Panorama Finals night should be considered a statistical tie.
Such a close difference is certainly a judgment call.
Comparing Phase II's presentation against the winning performance by All Stars, I couldn't help but think that the difference was the subject matter; the respect paid to the late Dr Pat Bishop created a respectful, almost reverend atmosphere, and rightly so.
I think the presentation "Archbishop of Pan" was edged out by All Stars not because of a qualitative difference, but because the judges(and the audience), consciously or not, were affected by the more joyous, Carnival nature of the presentation by All Stars of Smooth Edwards' "Play Yourself"
On the final night of panorama 2012, Phase II and Boogsie placed 2nd for the 12th time. Their prior second place finishes were in 1986 by one point, 1989, 1992, 1993,1996, 1997 by one point, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2009 by one point & 2010. Boogsie is the all time leader with 21 top-threes at large bands panorama. (do you know which arranger is second to boogsie with how many?) From the first year that he qualified for the panorama finals in 1977, he has only miss 1994 & 1995 because he was tied up in New York. What did you say about 1980? Yes I know that he did not qualify Phase II for the finals in 1980, but did he not qualify Jewel 22 to a 4th place finish.
