  • Such sweet sounds of early PAN. Thanks Steve.

  • Courtney Leiba, as glorious as Panorama has been over the years, most pan people do not like to be reminded of the negative side effects that the emphasis on panorama has had on the development of the steelband.

  • I do enjoy the rustic sound of the steelband. This was the era of good dance music. Silver Stars used to do the same but we can only hear the panorama music now a days which is disturbing to the ears of people who lives abroad. Bring back the stage side for recordings would be a pleasure for dancing

  • Excellent, Steve. This is probably the earliest recording by a South band that I remember ever hearing.

Great post, you've done it again!

  • Thanks, I totally enjoyed this  This is Steelband history. Much thanks.

  • Oh what a gem

  • Aye, Steve, looks like we have the same book, PAN THROUGH THE YEARS, very interesting book

  • There was a Ping Pong Soloists Category in the Festival of 1952 and Belgrave Bonaparte of Southern Symphony made it to the Final . Dr. Sydney Northcote of the UK adjudicated the Finals .In his address to the Audience he remarked " I can confess to having a pretty wide experience as a Festival Adjudicator but I cannot think of any other adjudicator who has had the Pleasure and Honor of Judging a SteelBand Festival .We have witnessed man's ingenuity in trying to get Beauty out of something that's a waste product . That, I do deeply respect. When I first saw the Instruments, I wondered what kind of music they would make ; I was astonished that they could make such Melodious Sounds " .
