I think in the old days the "pan pushers" were for the most part loyal band supporters who felt they were part of the band.
Because of that support, large steelbands were able to take to the streets of T&T.
That type of band support declined over time, and that's another reason why we stopped seeing the large bands on the road for Carnival.
I doubt you can keep a large steelband moving manually on the road today without paid pan pushers.
There were no DJs, and pan ruled the road for Carnival.
Those were the glory days of pan on the road for carnival.
I miss those days.
