The Dutchy Brothers of San Fernando, Trinidad were the sons of an Immigrant from a neighboring Dutch colony, a saxophone player called Leonard "Dutchy " De Vlugt.As children, they were musical prodigies, regularly appearing on children musical radio shows (Auntie Kay's show, for example), and as they grew, their band became one of the top dance bands in the Caribbean during the fifties and sixties.For the most part, the band included brothers Pete, the leader, on saxophone, Orville on guitar, Eugene on bass , Ottmar on keyboards, Rudolph on drums along with other musicians.The focal point of much of the Dutchys' music was their gifted pianist, Ottmar De Vlugt.A skilled and demonstrative player, he would mesmerize observers with his antics and expressions as he aggressively mastered the keyboards.The Dutchy brothers Band of San Fernando was a dominant force on the Trinidad music scene for years, and brought much joy to music lovers and party people of that era.Here is the Dutchy Brothers version of "Chopin's Piano Bolero", featuring Ottmar De Vlugt on piano

Mr.DeVlugt their father was an accomplished musician for I remember that around 1965/66 our Band Texaco West Stars Steel Orch. would perform with him and others in concerts for the patients of the San F'do General Hospital on Christmas /Boxing Days. He was always smiling and would take out a small flute from his jacket pocket and mesmerized us with his performances, and this has been passed on to his kids so it's no surprise that they also mesmerized us with their music. Thanks.
This is subject to correction but I believe that they won the Brassorama twice and to my recollection they were the first two competitions held at Queens Hall. Truly one of the GREATS. Thanks.
wonderful memories
i remember when the dutchys played on the road for the strasser band - that was the first time strasser had brought out a band after his many wonderful individual portrayals
the dutchys were on the back of a small truck and that was some music with their many signature songs
i also remember at oxford club in san fdo a fight broke out at ottmar got something out of the piano- to defend the band

Yebbo yep! I remember the boys playing at their home base "Habanera" night spot, Lower High Street opposite Medford Gas station, near the car park.
Oh my God,this is music, i remember when i use to put on my one shirt and stand up outside because i didnt have any money to go inside..that was the good old days.. THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR......
