A good time to revisit "An exclusive Ministry for Pan in Trinidad & Tobago"

This was the post in 2012

https://whensteeltalks.ning.com/forum/topics/a-ministry-exclusively...

A Pan Ministry in Trinidad & Tobago will be the vehicle and platform from which a complete steelpan industry can develop. An industry that can supply the world with pan ( the concept is pan for all schools around the world). Trinidad has to diversify away from the contents of the barrel (oil). Oil & gas will become like coal (dirty energy) The Biden administration is moving forward with Electric vehicles ( gas vehicles will eventually be outlawed) Trinidad need to start producing pan tuners so that we can fill the supply and demand for pan in the next twenty years.

Who is listening and taking notes?

We welcome the discussion

"Trinidad need to start producing pan tuners so that we can fill the supply and demand for pan in the next twenty years."

I have made THIS POINT to the BLOGGERS ON THE GUARDIAN many times (and I might have even said it on this forum) with the "HOW TO" INCLUDED ... but you have HIT THE STARTING POINT TO GLOBAL OPPORTUNITY with that line ....

Yes, it is time ,and some may say  way past time. Trinidad has to take a serious approach to this project. The "Pan Ministry" concept is indeed a vehicle to take the pan to the next level. The establishment of a steelpan industry in Trinidad is a necessary input, now that we have to re-imagine not having oil and gas as the main source of income. In the next two decades with electric cars being the norm gas vehicles will be fazed out. Trinidad & Tobago must begin establishing a new infrastructure of development. Diversification is the key, and exploration of the possibilities of the potentials for steelpan development is a necessary exercise. A well thought out concept of a steelpan industry would create thousands of jobs and set the country on a path of self reliance. We cannot miss the opportunity to move forward with this steelpan industry, notwithstanding that we are the rightful owners and creators of this unique product called the steelpan. The main ingredient to this industry is the pan tuner, because even though there will be inventions in automation ( machines built to sink and groove will be invented). The final step in pan manufacture is the work of the artisan (the pan tuner). Therefore we have to start producing pan tuners and pan builders and the time is now. A Ministry of Pan will have an annual substantial budget that will be able to facilitate the industry. Everyone has to jump on board with this, most importantly the pan fraternity. I am all in on this project and I am willing to open up the discussions and take the heat and cold of the topic ..so let's do it.

Salah: You could start by CALLING UP AINSWORTH MOHAMMED and telling him that YOU ARE DEAD SERIOUS and DEVOTED to THIS PROJECT.

AINSWORTH MOHAMMED HAS THE POLITICAL POWER TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!

I hear you Claude, I did have a conversation with him during an interview...so we have to keep pushing

Salah Wilson, thanks for constructively sharing such thought provoking ideas. There is no doubt that we are all interested in an awesome future for the musical steel industry in T&T. Consistent with that sentiment, you have expressed with clarity some of the key factors for consideration as we ponder the future of the musical steel industry in T&T.  All of the factors you outlined could inform the development of a bold, imaginative, robust long range strategic plan for T&T's musical steel industry in the 21st century. Most responsible industries, including  governments, are currently considering or in the process of crafting or managing strategic plans to address particular issues/products. Such management approaches constitute the very definition of responsible business practices.

At this point, there appears to be an absence of urgency in T&T to undertake such a strategic planning effort. What will it take to move in that direction? Should this issue not be a serious active dialogue staged on this (when steel talks) and other social media platforms? Whose responsibility is it to initiate and manage an open transparent discussion on this matter? Perhaps such planning is already being considered or are secretly being developed. Moreover, elected leadership should be held accountable to outline plans to meet the challenges and opportunities of this century. In any event, we are faced with questions that are worthy of answers.

Imagine for a moment an ideal situation in which Pantrinbago, for example, convene and chairs a town hall meeting, consisting of key partners local and foreign, using various communication APPs such as Skype or Zoom. That town hall meeting will focus on broardly defining the parameters necessary for undertaking a long range strategic plan to further advance the business interests of the musical steel industry in T&T. We could do this. Be well and keep safe.

You have to have THE RIGHT PAN TRINBAGO PRESIDENT for them to GET INVOLVED in THIS PROJECT. They cannot be OPPORTUNISTS like the CURRENT PRESIDENT looking to SELF-PROMOTE and SELF-FINANCE!!!

Mr.Spooner: You should make DIRECT CONTACT with DR. SALAH WILSON and see if you could help advance HIS AGENDA. I have read all of your postings on WST and I know that you SINCERELY LOVE PAN and are an ADVOCATE FOR PAN PROGRESS. Now is the time for ALL GOOD PAN LOVERS to come to the AID OF PAN!!!

MUCH RESPECT TO YOU!!!

I am listening and taking notes.

Love the initiative and the passion Mr. Wilson.

Keep leading the way and we will eventually have to follow wether we want to our not.

MR. AQUIL ARRINDELL: Read this posting that I put up 2 years ago ...

Sidd: We don't need to KILL THE BANDITS. Round them all up (about 6000) and put them in a LABOUR CAMP and teach them to MAKE PANS among OTHER SKILLS.

Salah knows AINSWORTH MOHAMMED (PERSONALLY) and AINSWORTH MOHAMMED is a  BIG WIG in THE PNM GOVERNMENT ... so this could ALL HAPPEN (THE GERMINATION) with a LITTLE TEAM WORK.

Yuh is ah BIG SCHOOL SUPERVISOR and SALAH IS A BIG DOCTOR OF MUSIC and AINSWORTH MOHAMMED is ah BIG MAN IN THE PNM and the BIG MANAGER of ME AND SALAH FAMILY BAND (EXODUS). So the THREE AH ALLYUH should HOOK UP and GET SOMETHING GOING.

Yuh know me: I is just ah PAN CRITIC waiting to hear some GLOBAL PAN MUSIC coming out TRINIDAD ... but like ah GO DEAD before I hear THAT MUSIC.

Call SALAH and call AINSWORTH MOHAMMED and the THREE AH ALLYUH could work to DEVELOP THIS PROJECT.

I am WILLING TO SUPPORT THE MISSION!!! We could bring in RUSSELL PROVIDENCE -- he is a BIG TIME ADMINISTRATOR with inside PNM CONNECTIONS.

It is NOW OR NEVER!!!

Thanks Claude, I do intend to push this project because it is has its merits and I can't find a better vehicle to set up and develop this steelpan industry except a Pan Ministry.

... if you get THIS PROJECT off the ground, it will be able to FINANCE A MINISTRY OF PAN in 15 years time ... but we kinda late, our CLOCKS are running out ... anyway YOU (in particular) have some LONG RUNNING FAMILY GENES ... so LET US GO FOR IT!!!

Claude, what else is there to do? if you can show me another vehicle (way) to bring about the transformation of pan as we know it -  to establishing a steelpan industry that is capable of supplying pan to schools the world over.... Other than an exclusive ministry for pan with an annual budget like any other ministry... Pan is unique, and a unique way of getting the job done is through this concept.

Grafton Spooner, thank you sir. I certainly respect and welcome your position on this matter. People with your type of thinking are certainly needed to make this project a reality. I would appreciate more communications with you... good to know you.
