A Message From Gregory Lindsay of UPPM (the United Pan Peoples Movement)

I unreservedly apologize to anyone who feels aggrieved, Nigel Williams, Desiree Myers, Michael Marcano, and Keith Byer especially included, that the movement that Dane and I led, for the Real Change that we sought, seemingly capitulated to the pressure of the current Pan Trinbago executive and delegates

I realize that my passion for the change that I seek, will not be forthcoming now or anytime soon....with UPPM, Dane Gulston, NCC Chairman De Silva, Culture Minister Dolly, or executives of Pan Trinbago, even from the PM Dr. Rowley.....for that matter.........Fair enough!

On behalf of Power Stars Steel Orchestra, the membership and executive have unanimously decided that, we collectively decided that our orchestra WILL NOT be participating at the National Panorama Competition 2017, and further to that, that our orchestra SHALL and WILL RETURN to the NCC Accountant Nigel Williams via proper protocols and in the most public forums, the cheque issued in the orchestra's name, for ASSISTANCE FOR CARNIVAL from the NCC, as he advised via telephone call to me in December 2016; in a final protest to the tomfoolery that passes for governance in Pan Affairs at Pan Trinbago....in light of all expressed in the public domain....

Stand for something...or fall for anything....George D Goddard...........We're Out!

I am left without words! Yet what I want to say is that what happened is due to the ignorance many have of our identity, ie. who we really are. Pan was born as a symbol of resistance to race, class and political domination. If in the 40s poor people whose bosoms gave birth to Pan had given up, as devastating as it was, there would have been no Pan. So some of you should learn the past, the history, to understand where your strengths are to come from, to know there is to be no giving up nor giving in. My disappointment makes me wonder if some of us, Bugs, Claude, odw and ors. along with myself, have a different definition from others of the struggle for JUSTICE .

I rest my case!

  Just think, when George D Goddard was president he served the movement as an unpaid leader and there were year round activities for Pan Players. These gangsters can't come up with NEW ideas for promoting the art-form. Like PIMPS their bottom line is getting their MONEY...Pimping the art-form like Claude would say.

Character and Integrity is hard to come by these days, Mr. Lindsay the fact that you took on this undertaking and stood on principle and values, demonstrates what quality leadership is all about.

Mr Lindsay....I applaud you for your stance and your courage and honesty!!!! I am also ashamed that the pan men & women of today together with the band leaders of the top big bands did not have the courage to stand with you now. In the 1970's the pan fraternity had BALLS and boycotted Panorama to show they were serious and because of their strength of character got what they wanted. Today.....they are like sheep running to get a little bad grass before the farmers (pan Trinbago) cart them all off to the slaughterhouse!!!! THEY ARE COWARDS who will talk the talk but don't have enough pride and respect for themselves to walk the walk!!!
Be proud of yourself and your band for the stance you have taken .......You have my RESPECT...RESPECT...RESPECT!!!!!
