Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - ...Cyril Boxill or “Nick,” as he was fondly called, grew up in San Fernando. For the greater part of his life he was involved in the steelpan movement.

Small wonder he was also known as “Bredwin” due to his kind-heartedness. He often referred to the steelpan as “Barrels” and was a founding member of Mayo Starlift which, with Vic Lange as arranger, made quite an impression in the Steelband Festival in the 1950s with a piece entitled “Waltz of the Sugar Plum Fairies.”

  • The measure of one's life is found in the sentiments expressed after a person dies. Bredwin was a true character of the South. He was a true afficionado of the barrels and good food. May his soul find peace and a panside in the hereafter.

    I never knew him but the article brought back memories of several familiar but forgotten steelbands of my youth.

    Bands like Teenage Symphony, QT Minors and of course Sea Bees which (along with Hatters and Rogues Regiment) was one of the first steelbands I ever knew of.
