Ok so...there you have it. The Finals are over now we know who won and dare I say the judges got it RIGHT
...I loved Phase, loved Silver Stars..I thought All Stars was fantastic. I absolutely agree that arrangements have become mostly "formulaic" but I heard fabulous wonderful things from Pouchet's arrangement, from Smooth...Boogsie's ending was fantastic.....Amrit did a fine job. I enjoyed Zanda's spirited arrangement for Deltones, Sound Setters had great tone so did Exodus, Despers had their grand sound with them. All in all it was a good show. I hope the music gets more progressive from this point on and it's encouraging that a band like Silver Stars got the recognition it deserves after all these years. They put in a STERLING performance. I had a blast watching and listening in. Already looking forward to next year.
I think Panorama is up for grabs this year...a dark horse may win it, but I'm leaning more towards Desperadoes. Still you never know what Boogsie will do, especially playing in the last position!
I don't expect to much change from the Semi's. Phase II's performance put me to sleep quite frankly. I don't know what all the fuss is about Magic Drums, they're was nothing 'Magic' about it; I don't like their style of playing at all. But I'm afraid this will become the standard for Panoramas to come unfortunately. All that said though, I'm expecting either Exodus or Phase II will win it. The only thing I'm looking forward to tonight is what Amrit will have in store for the Finals version of Dr. Jit.
i absolutey agree RenegadesFan. i also don't personally vibe to Phase II's style, but stll have to give them respectful props for their skill and talent. Renegades is my hands-down personal favorite band and i cannot WAIT to hear what Amrit does tonight too, in spite of my utter sorrow that Dr Jit himself is under the weather and has turned the reins over. nonetheless i do feel the band is in good hands with Amrit, he has impressed me no end these past two years.
Ah hate to tell yuh, but Phase II will win the Panorama tonight again.....my pick was for Silver Stars, but after hearing how much G pan the Government give Phase II to play in the Panorama this year, they not going to allow anyone else to take that title away from them....can you say...fix ?
i think "musically" speaking Desperadoes gonna give them a run fi they money; they were The Bomb in semi's-- IMHO of course.
but "politically" speaking? probly The Phase goh win again. Despers and Robbie have spoken out and i think they will get a 'chastising' for that by the judges
don't get me wrong i have maximum respect for Boogsie's talent and skill. And for the SERIOUS skillzzzz, talent, spirit, and enrgy of the whole band. But I also think his arrangements have become "formulaic" -- dare i say almost predictable, and i just don't htink thats the true spirit of the thing. I also think that the judges have come to be looking and judging for the formula - as opposed to judging on the true spirit of musicality, creativity and equitably judging ALL the bands. which is just too bad IMHO
