San city is in medium category.
I just can't understand that with the wealth of good music this year, arrangers, especially the young guns opting for back-in-times music…and to make matters worse, Blueboy re-releases a tune from 1989…so what next?…a re-make of Rebecca next year?
I had brought that up before and somebody said that the arrangers arranging for so many bands its easier to do them back in times music so they can go to the other bands, but this year have a lot of good tunes, I usually criticize these Pan songs, but they are good this time .
Merry, And I hear Despers coming with Blueboy tune, I don't know how true it is (that is ah rake), but if so Despers cant win, No Large Band have ever won with an old calypso, I believe the Judges were told to do so..
Yeah I heard that too Bede…I am not one to buy stories about judges being told not to be favourable to ole tunes played by large bands…so far the bands playing ole tunes just weren't better than the rest in the given year...the first band to do it was All Stars and they got a sound cutarse that year…since then I think Invaders did it to no avail as well…look at Exodus with Gold last year too... same story….but I'm certain that if ever a large band wins Panorama with an ole tune…everybody will kick up a fuss over it…mark my words
That's why I am saying I believe the Judges have been so instructed, the same way you are thinking that if it happen people will fuss.
From what I understand several of these bands have switched categories. Also does anybody know if there is truth to the rumor that there is to be an actual preliminaries elimination round for large bands this year?
Since this is the world cup year it would be great to hear some Brazilian influences written into the arrangements. Ofcourse this will require immense skill to embed another style as a "variation on a theme" but it creates an exciting challenge.
Lookout for Kenneth Clarke and Tokyo (Medium band) with Latin movements
Hi, Please add to the Small Bands list!
