Everything Related to the Steelpan Instrument and Music
It's quite likely that an early morning unsustainable erection may have spurred productive thoughts, which faded as hope shrunk. There must be a reason for celebrating a day.
This is how Mr. Gittens responded publicly when asked about the significance of the date he was suggesting in another space.
THE QUESTION REMAINS, WHY AUGUST 11th?
And my reply still remains why not.
AYE! to WORLD STEELPAN DAY..
Pan Trinbago hosts Steelband Month in August...
Pan Trinbago will host Steelband Month during the period August 1–31, 2011, with a number of planned activities in commemoration of the 19th Anniversary of the declaration of the Steelpan as the National Musical Instrument of Trinidad & Tobago.

David 'Happy' Williams - I Love Pan
Well I have to admit that the date seemed ARBITRARY. But the idea of a "WORLD STEELPAN DAY" is a brilliant idea (although I resent the word: STEELPAN).
But since almost ALL of STEELBAND HISTORY is MYTHICAL -- I say: Find a date that RUSSELL PROVIDENCE could accept and MOVE FORWARD.
As a PROPONENT of GLOBAL PAN MUSIC on THIS FORUM: I could envision countries all over the world CELEBRATING PAN on some given day. And I am suggesting that we hire some TALENTED MUSIC PRODUCERS and compose like a NATIONAL GLOBAL ANTHEM FOR PAN.
But if allyuh plan to put BEVERLEY RAMSEY-MOORE and the current PAN TRINBAGO EXECUTIVE in charge of THAT PROJECT -- ALLYUH SPINNING TOP IN BEVERLEY EXECUTIVE MUD!!!
Very intriguing project though: But ah wonder if the PAN COMMUNITY has the ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS to TAKE PAN TO THE WORLD with this VEHICLE?
As August is already designated as a celebration of the anniversary of Pan gaining National Musical Instrument status, it would be perfectly reasonable to designate one of its days as World Pan Day. Maybe not pin it on a specific date, rather 2nd Sunday on August,or something so.
Excellent suggestion madam.
The Pan Trinbago Executives will tackle PRODUCTIVE THOUGHTS hard-on...
Penguin "Soft Man" (1984 calypso Monarch)
But ah doh know why DEY RUSH to do this thing SO FAST.
RUSSELL PROVIDENCE caution them to evaluate the SPECIFIC DATE before JUMPING THE GUN -- and they refuse to listen to that man!!!
And now they gone and put BEVERLEY in charge of the PROJECT -- and it have men like SALMON CUPID who already INTERNATIONAL and WORLDWIDE (excuse the redundancy) and he cannot even get a seat at the LAUNCH TABLE.
What SALMON say about the PAN HORSE having BLINDERS?
"We as a people, TRINBAGONIANS, are keeping STEELPAN back. The horse wants TO BOLT and because we're wearing blinders and using tunnel-vision restraints and opinions we are HOLDING this art-form back."
I sure hope that SALMON CUPID is a member of that "WORLD STEELPAN DAY" committee.
