After the wonderful time for panorama. Pan men and woman are sometimes forced to give up pan for a while, pans are packed away collecting dust and cobweb and only taken out until panorama seasons start up again. If we are creator or the steel drum why is the government forsaking the instrument. Time to give pan men and woman more stuff to do.

There is a saying in music " You got to pay your dues"......which means that's it expected that you play for free,to build your name and fame....
The question is how long does a steelband/pannist have to pay their dues?.....seems like forever......Yep....keep playing for the love.....while your spouse and children are depending on you, to provide their needs.

oswald alexander, how many jobs a steelband get a year? I'm sure they will all make a few more dollars if they create their own gigs.
Cecil, like?I said before " who in the kitchen does feel the heat" and I have heard many giving advice on how to do this,or how to do that...but you know what? They are giving you advice on what you may have done, and you may have even failed at it......but they have never failed, because they have never tried.
I far as I know there isn't a leader of a steelband leader who got rich because he/she lead a steelband.....because there is very little to go around after paying tuner/s,arranger/s,transport/ loaders/etc....as a matter of fact, I know many whom have gotten poorer (financially) from being in charge of steelbands.
I do remember when bandstands featured steel (and other) bands on Friday night for concerts and families would attend. This could be supported (paid for) by the Ministry of Culture or the Association of Steelbands.

That is why you have an Association. If you missed it for guidance and leadership.
Why is it that steelbands don't try doing anything for themselves? because they sit around and wait for panorama.
I totally agree!
So time to be inventive and creative, pan women and men!
I know it will be difficult, since you are on an island. But still. Pick your brain and think where else you could play and go for it!
Don't think about money for your performance, but investment in the future.
A lot of people did that before you, otherwise pan wouldn't have spread almost all over the world.
Don't wait for someone to take you by the hand. Take yourself, your good spirit, your joy in playing and start thinking about possibilities.
You are the inventors of pan. So creativity is in your blood!

Who in the kitchen, does feel the heat!
