Brother versus brother at Panorama Finals

OK, Pan Folks, here is a test of your knowledge of Pan History.

There was only one occasion in Panorama history that two brothers went head to head against each other as arrangers for the big prize in the Finals.

Who were the brothers?

Who were the bands?

  • Here is a question (but its from a rumour) Which steelband paid tribute(carnival day with a banner) to another steelband (the only time) after they had their new pans built??
    • I'm waiting for the answer, Paddy.

      Anyone?

  • I checked out Renegades website hoping for a definitive answer , but there was no mention as to how far they got in the 1969 Panorama, so I hope an old Renegades hand could shed some light.

I know they were in the Semis and I'm pretty sure they made it to the finals , but I could be wrong.

Meanwhile, do check out Renegades website, I found it to be a treasure trove of information, especially the history section which gives an honest account of the good (and bad ) old days.

Old timers like me are reminded of the days of the Lawbreakers, and the days when badjohns with names like Eddie Boom, Goldteeth, Whitey Kincaid, Dr Rat, and others were known throughout Trinidad.

(And you don't even have to rely on my memory)

And it was 1969, the year Starlift won with The Bull, Cavaliers came second with "Mas in Brooklyn", and Harmonites came third with "Bongo".

  • come on glenroy, ask more....please!!!!
  • i believe it was Bobby Mohammed with Cavaliers in 1969 while his brother Selwyn Mohammed worked with Renegades.
  • Thanks for that little test. These are the things that makes pan history good.I wonder how many of us knew that.I certainly didn't.Thanks again for the answer. I am now going to test others.
  • You're right, Michael Kernahan.

In 1969, Lennox Bobby Mohammed arranged for Guinness Cavaliers when they played Sparrows "Mas in Brooklyn.

His brother , Selwyn Mohammed arranged Sparrow's "Sixty Million Frenchmen" for the then Paramount Renegades.

They both appeared in the finals, where Guinness Cavaliers placed second.
    • Did Paramount Renegades make it to the finals? I

believe the year was 1968.  Solo Harmonites won with the "Wrecker", and Angostura Starlift came second with "Jane".    I won a bet that year.   I was playing with Tripoli and bet someone from town that Tripoli beat Renegades.   Tripoli made it to the Finals.

      • I'm pretty certain that Renegades made it to the finals that year from memory, but relying on memory can sometimes be tricky, so I won't swear on a stack of Bibles!
        • I am still betting that Renegades did not make it to the finals and the year was 1968.   Renegades people say something.   Ah mean those who were around that time.
