Im not in Trinidad right now. And dont have a band that i play for there....thanks for your advice.
Here in my town (I'm in Saskatoon, Canada), a few of the players swear by Harrigin. My mentor in Calgary, Canada, has Guppy pans. I have a Gill pan that I like that I bought used from a guy locally.
When I got my Gill pan, I would guess that they didn't have the reputation that a Harrigan or Guppy would. However, I'm happy with my pan, and am under the impression that Gill is a good business to deal with. From afar, it would seem that their quality is rivalling the other prominent names mentioned.
My advice... If you are playing with a band, try to get a pan from the same tuner. Compare what they offer in the package (stands, cases, shipping costs, whatever you feel is important).
Check out Sarah's Pan Cases in Trinidad (they are on Facebook and have a web page). My Gill pan came with a Sarah case, and I purchased a custom pair for my double seconds from Sarah's directly... I love them! two weeks total from sewing the custom cases until they arrived at my door!
Harrigans, Kelman, Mappo Richardson, Gerard Clarke... continue to do your homework, there are other reputable tuners out there.
