D FORUM OPEN........

WST has made it possible for members to discuss any pan related topic they choose, some of us may have areas where we zero in on for whatever reason but the Forum is available for everyone to choose whatever they want to talk about.

It is my observation that we love talking about the History but is silent about the present. What's today like for the steelband in the Mecca? how does the future look for them?

This  is my area of interest so all my post will be directed to this subject, who doh like it or tired with it that's your problem.

  • ''Cecil as Long as Pantrinbago is in Charge of Pan and Continues to  Make the Decisions on Behalf of Pan People Pan Will remain Stagnant. Pan in Trinidad is Governed By a Dictator and His Cronies for the Longest while. If Pan and the Panman have to Go Forward, The First Course of Action is to get rid of this Present Administration. That is the Only way  I don't know How it will be done but it must be done.  People are so Gullible they accept anything that they are Scared off. Bless!

    • MR. VALENTINE YOUNG: Only three people on this forum understand your opening sentence. You and me and Bertel Gittens. That is why they keep coming up with these CASTLES IN THE SKY suggestions about PAN that have ZERO CHANCE of enactment.  And they do it with such pomposity, oblivious to the realty that NOTHING IS COING TO CHANGE as long as DIAZ and that crew are leading PAN TRINBAGO.

Very simple for you and me and Bertel to understand. Extremely complex for the rest of the posters. So be it!!!

  • Pan should beat for Jourvert and done wid dat.
    • Well Cecil this new Generation were only taught to jump with D J Trucks..Now is the time to pass on the Baton for a An experience they do not have a clue about .They is is most needed .and will be the only way Pan will be embracred they way it has always been . JUST SAYING
      • Nancy Jerningan, I hear what you're saying, I hope you continue to voice your opinion on this topic, as you can see there are a lot of people saying "dem days done" let's prove them wrong.

    • I mean pushing pan ,and leave the DJ trucks for Monday and Tuesday big Costumes bands for competition .I miss the Brass for Jourvert but please give us back We STEEL BAND AND IRON .
      • Nancy Jerningan, Good idea, it's so sad that in the Mecca of Pan they don't seem to want to protect it and give it a chance to flourish.

  • Cecil: The government raise the price on SUPER and DIESEL so maybe it might be too expensive to have PAN ON TRUCKS for carnival. Maybe your dream will come true and man will have to start PUSHING PAN ON THE ROAD again for CARNIVAL.

  • I've been listening to Boogsie's arrangements from the eighties and nineties , and find there is a difference in the arrangements compared to the more modern arrangements of the last decade or so,

(BTW again I must compliment Mr. Simeon "Sanch " Sandiford on his high quality panorama recordings. They are still some of the best steelband recordings available)

I've been trying to figure out why I find the older arrangements sweeter and more enjoyable. and I decided that it was because of a change in style.

Earlier panorama arrangements seemed closer to traditional steelband carnival music , which emphasized rhythm , cord structure , and the jam , anchored by the bass.

This was also the approach that Bradley favored in that era.

The modern arrangements seemed more classical , with the emphasis on complexity of arrangement , blazing speed , more to show off the talent and skills of arranger and players .

The modern arrangements may give more of a glitzy , show-business feel and sound, but give me the old fashioned pan jam , any day.
