  • I missed Grey's Anatomy last night and I just saw the clip with Bunji's song. Iwas very impressed and wishes Bunji all the best. Another good credit to the show's creator Shonda Rimes. I am going to send the show a tweet.

  • I recall hearing one of Shadow's songs being played in the movie "Lean on me" some years ago, so, we're getting there slowly.

  • I must say that I'm somewhat surprised at the level of excitement generated by this brief taste of Bunji's tune at the introduction to a television show.

To me it was noteworthy, but not that unusual, since over the years I've heard other calypsos , particularly by Sparrow and Arrow in movie soundtracks.

And I'm pretty sure there have been others.

Off the top of my head I can remember Sparrow's music in Steve Martin's "Club Paradise".

Denzil's "Mighty Quinn"  also featured music by Arrow.

Master panist Robbie Greenidge has had his music featured even more prominently in movies.

I recently watched Eddie Murphy's movie " 48 Hrs.", and Robbie was heard in the background throughout the movie.

Robbie also appeared on the soundtracks for  "Commando", "Hard to Kill", and several other movies. ( I guess today he would be replaced by a synthesizer ).

Like I said, noteworthy , but not as significant an event as some seem to think.

    Sorry, but that's my opinion.

    • Robert Greendige Alone!!!

      • Thank you Claude.

I recently happened to watch both Steven Segal's "Hard to Kill" and Eddie Murphy's "48hrs"., and Robbies pan was ringing throughout action sequences in both movies.

    • Glen,
I know you have seen the evolution of the new technology coming out of the computer industry, like you I started in computers in the 70s and what is happening today with IPads, Smart Phones and other hand-held devices they contain applications that will make the desktop obsolete. We now have quick access to music, music videos, movies, live shows, and television broadcast all of which can be accessed from any part of the world.

What's different is back then we didn’t have YouTube or easy access to record and save movie clips to post to sites like Facebook and other social media outlets. Do you remember how the “chat-room” was design quite different from what we see today with today bloggers?

Today some of the older movies like those you mention are being converted into Blue Ray with 5.1 and 7.1 sound 3D and HD video quality all of which will provide financial benefit for Robbie and Sparrow if they are reproduced.

This is big because what is happening now and with our dependence on these new technologies, the controllers/programmers like Google, Apple, Amazon and others are dictating how e-commerce is being done.

For example on YouTube Bunji song can be purchased via ITunes and by the next season when ABC decides to produce their box set of Greg’s Anatomy season # he’ll receive his residual for his work and who knows when they decided to put it in syndication for worldwide distribution I’m sure he’ll continue to get paid.

We have to start looking at the big picture and how technology is changing in the Global market place. Its entertainment but it’s also an industry.

      • You're right ODW.

Technology has created an awareness we didn't have in the past, so a similar event - say Sparrow's calypsos in the soundtrack of the Steve Martin movie "Club Paradise"- went virtually unnoticed back in the 1980s.

That's why one of the first popular pan videos around was the European steelband's version of "Pan In A Minor". because of internet exposure.

I remember my friends making quite a fuss over it, and as a result  I had to "educate" even some of my ex-pat Trinidadian peeps, who may not have been aware of what was happening with pan in Trinidad.

And that was one of the main reasons I converted those video tapes to digital and joined you in posting all that pan on youtube.

BTW, I'm not sure how many on this forum are aware of the significant contributions you have made to our culture by sharing your impressive video catalog with us, but I for one an extremely appreciative.

Thank you very much, ODW (IsDePanInMe)

        • Chiming in to give props to ODW, didn't realize you were IsDePanInMe. Love love LOVE your Youtube channel. You too Glenroy. Keep it up fellas.

          • I think that he has been trying to maintain a low profile, Noah, but in the interest of setting the record straight I'm forced to expose him :)
