Baltimore, Maryland, USA - Dundalk area students will participate in a steel drum band extravaganza Friday night when Parkville High School hosts the 11th annual Panorama.

Bands from Gen. John Stricker Middle and Sparrows Point High schools will join the steel drum groups from Stoneleigh Elementary, Hereford Middle and Catonsville, Parkville and Perry Hall High schools in a free concert at Parkville High on Friday night.

"Panorama is an awesome concert that showcases many of the steel bands in the county," Stricker band director Jason Adams told Dundalk Patch.

....The event is modeled after the "real" Panoramas held in Jamaica, except without the competition, according to Adams.

  • People say things like that guy knowing that we down here don't really do or say anything and just shrug it off. This is a response for Pan Trinbago not only to him but to the world. Many of them read WST, so let's see if they will respond.

    • Everyone knows he meant to say Trinidad. Correct or remind him, forgive him, and thank him sincerely for encouraging pan wherever he is, in Pittsburgh, ah mean Baltimore, I mean...

      • I like this response.

        • Redonkulous.  I found the article on their town newspaper and posted a comment to make the correction.

Whether it was he, or the reporter, who got this wrong, either way it's just unacceptable for an organization that's supposed to be promoting pan in their community - and i hate to say it, but it makes them look really stupid as well.

  • SMH

    bugs

  • The real Panoramas held in Jamaica!!!!! What next?

    • We need to have them read your book, Kim.

I'm so glad you wrote that book and put it all out there for posterity.

That's also one of the reasons why I've tried to put historical audio and video evidence on the web.

Once the information is out there in cyberspace, sooner or later everyone will get it.

    • As if we don't have enough issues in Trinidad??? While there are many carnivals and competitions as a result it is imperatively honest and respectful that persons get the origins of any cultural event correct. It is our duty as Trinbagonians to ensure we correct information which will give wrong direction.

      Bless

  • This is great. Just a small clarification while there are many Panoramas the original is held inTrinidad and Tobago.

    • Checking out the entire article from the link, the "clown" who said this, Jason Adams who is the director for the Gen. John Stricker Middle steelband, started this particular Panorama years ago, with another guy.

This is year ELEVEN of the show.  As the organizer of this event, I will not believe that after eleven years of holding it, Adams does not know that the "real" panorama with steel orchestras, as far as the sheer numbers of bands and sizes go, is held in Trinidad & Tobago.  If so, he and his co-organizer should not be allowed to hold this type of event and disseminate mis-information via media outlets.

Think of this - there is a large number of people, students and adults, who are attending, listening in an "education" arena, to what this guy is saying as historical fact.

      Sad.
