For years and years I have complained about PANORAMA ARRANGERS putting all that EUROPEAN MUSIC in their arrangements in the CALYPSO on a PANORAMA SATURDAY NIGHT at the height of THE CARNIVAL BACCHANAL SEASON -- sucking the blood out of the culture while befuddled hard core calypso lovers sit in the audience trying to decipher the nonsense.
It came to a head a couple years ago when one UWI music graduate exposed the absurdity and it created a big discussion on this FORUM. I, myself, had to explain to Duvone -- the last time he came back to the bay area -- that I joined in the criticism not to be against him but because I expect a calypso to be played like a CALYPSO on a CARNIVAL SATURDAY NIGHT in TRINIDAD and TOBAGO.
Lo and behold, I decided to listen to this year's presentation by RENEGADES and I went into a state of shock when I heard DUVONE go back to the CALYPSO ROOTS and PLAY "BLACK MAN FEELING TO PARTY" in CALYPSO. WHAT A HAPPY MOMENT IN TIME.
Now, I have heard Duvone complain that once he started winning all the other arrangers started copying his style. So I am hoping that with this BLOW OUT VICTORY by RENEGADES in 2023 -- the other arrangers copy him again going forward and PLAY THE CALYPSO IN CALYPSO and leave their attempts to play CLASSICAL CALYPSO MUSIC for some other competition. DOH PUT that nonsense in MY CALYPSO -- IN A PANORAMA SONG!!!

DOCTOR deLIGHT: I have a joke for you that you will GREATLY APPRECIATE.
"I was never THE BRIGHTEST STUDENT in the class ... but they always PUT ME in the class with THE BRIGHTEST STUDENTS". The corollary is that: I know BRIGHT when I SEE BRIGHT.
And when I see BRIGHT like you taking his time to ENGAGE on this forum with a lesser mortal like me ... NUFF RESPECT.
WE LOVE THE PAN TING (and the culture) ... that is what we have in common.
BUT THE PANORAMA DONE and Duvone done win!!!
Sir Claudius:
I know RIGHT when I see RIGHT. And I see that YOU are RIGHT!.
We may have many differences of opinions and tastes; but, we have much in common - the PAN TING, the culture, and just being TRINI.
And DAT cyah be anything but RIGHTeous!
Unfortunately, I don't have a qualified or trained ear for music, like you do. But I know what I like, and I like what I hear - from day one.
Duvone's placement of notes is music to my ear. This dude is musically stupendous. Just seconds into his introduction (and that was before the Prelims, ok?) I was drawn in.
Then again, it could merely be that I simply love Stalin's tune (calypso).
But shucks! Once again, I am relying on your vaticinating, do you think it is possible that the Panorama done and Duvone done win...but, Renegades NOT win? ;-) Asking for a friend, again.
Anyhow, as we look forward to enjoying the Semis today, there are 15 Medium and 14 Large bands on tap. Phew! As you may be apt to say, Claudius, "What a PANoply of delicious PAN!"
We will enjoy!
Gentlemen, if Duvone win de Panorama this will be history making.
Let see how it plays out with the new music for Panorama 2023.
How u doing CLAUDE ? After seeing the results of the large and medium bands prelims results, I notice that the (14) medium bands that qualify for the semifinals none of them played "LONG LIVE SOCA" a tune written and sung by Soca Star Aaron "voice" St Louis. This tune was said to be a front runner for a significant number of bands for 2023 Panorama. Also the large bands that played it and qualify for the semifinals finished 11, 12,13,and 14., Awaiting your views on why this tune is not popular with the Judges.
How are you doing, Earl? To answer your question: I think that the RHYTHMIC PATTERN of the song does not give the pans enough time to decay. So the arrangers passed on it.
