We all have ideas & projects that we start on, and sometimes we even finish them and get that sense of accomplishment that feels so good. But what great things can happen if we really push ourselves beyond where we thought we already pushed ourselves? International touring and recording artist Jonathan Scales has garnered a loyal following of music lovers by pushing the steel drums into a musically adventurous realm of contemporary jazz, changing listener's perspectives of the traditional Caribbean instrument often stereotypically associated with sandy beaches and cruise ship vacations. Scales has released 5 albums and has performed in 14 countries across 4 continents with his progressive sound that Jazz Times calls "joyously inventive." This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

  • So when are WE going to get a GLOBAL PAN AMBASSADOR out in the world like JONATHAN SCALES? I know that there are thousands of MUSICAL GENIUSES down in TRINIDAD, I just want to see ONE break out!!!

    • Robbie Greenidge, Othello Molineux and Ken Philmore, also Rudy Smith in Europe continue to blaze a successful pan trail. Google these names and you'll discover how much they have achieved.
