Greatest Hits Panorama CD (In Theory)

If you had to produce a CD of GREATEST PANORAMA HITS, which TWELVE songs would you put on that CD? There are roughly 600,000 Trinidadians living in various parts of the world, so there might be a fair amount of interest in such a product. Let us say that 10% of these expats buy the CD and another 5000 fans in Trinidad buy the CD and we add some digital downloads to the pot ... at $15 (US) a CD we are looking at around ONE MILLION DOLLARS in Gross Sales.

$50,000 could go to the WST "BROOKLYN PANYARD VIDEO CONTEST" and that could generate perhaps a marketable DVD.

Three songs are a must for me: Cavaliers (Mas); Tokyo (Pan in Danger); Phase II (This Feeling Nice).

  • BIG UP GLENROY. NEVER HEARD OF THE MAN OR DELOS and I have spent 1/2 my  life in the music business (allbeit Jazz-Rock-R&B) on 3 continents. If those CDs are available it would be in their interest to publicize them on WST or any other PAN FORUM. I certainly would be interested.  By the way does anybody have a copy of  TOKYO  plays RAY HOLMAN arrangements. would love a copy. paddy corea.

  • On the subject of panorama recordings, I must mention Mr. Simeon "Sanch" Sandiford's contributions.

In the eighties and nineties he made some pan yard Panorama recordings that are some of the best high quality pan recordings out there.

To this date, Sanch's recordings remain the best pan recordings I've ever heard that were  produced in Trinidad.

Sanch's attention to quality and detail stands out in his recordings, as does his obvious love of pan music.

There is no real need to create any great panorama cds, although you can select a "Best of" from Sanch's catalog, which features the "Steelbands of Trinidad and Tobago" series on the Delos label..

I sincerely hope that all of his recordings are still available.

There seems to be little awareness of Sandiford's excellent catalog of high quality pan music, especially by those who insist on comparing pan music to "noise"..

    • Glenroy:
I am glad that somebody paid some recognition to the work of Simeon Sandiford!!! He has devoted much of his life to recording and bringing high quality steelband music to the global market. He has a pure and tireless love for steelband music and demonstrates it with his pursuit of a perfect product.

      • Great series of pan recording by Simeon Sandiford, he did the recording, produce by Delos International of Hollywood, Los Angeles - 16 CD's in the series.

  • Oh my goodness, Bede...where is Starlift's "Natasha" Do Do Yemi and Third World's "Gold"? Great hits..
