  • Well Willie Lynchers come in all form and fashion, and if this promise will get the voters good luck to her. especially since she has been ramming it down our throars that the treasury is empty.
  • Hmm.......Ok....heres a two million dollar question
What is going to happen with the G-Pan......I have heard many an arranger and tuner articulate that while it is a good thing, and a lot of money , research and development.....patents et al....have gone into it.......however that it is not a cost-feasible option for the pan fraternity....too big too costly to put into mass production.......what will be the plan with the National Steel Symphony Orchestra and The National Youth Steel Orchestra......what says thou?

Talking about two million dollar first prize is all well and good as much as peeing into the wind......What will be the Strategic Agenda of the World governing Body....towards overall development....Will the tail be wagging the dog...or the dog wagging its tail?
    • These are very good questions Gregory. Maybe Mr. Copland can shed some info on the future of the G-pan.

  • Pan-men please don't hold your breath over this. You will die waiting. You may get it for the next Panorama......but that's it.Get that pledge in writing now ,signed by the goodly lady....if you can!
For too long panmen have been taken for a ride by politicians ...and this is just another example.Pan Trinbago, by now 2010, should have been more independent so as not to be in a situation where politicians can dangle carrots for you from an election platform to get your vote
.People remember this is a unique art form....it should not be subjected to this kind of mamaguy ! It must be treated with respect.
  • Poor Judgment..... Bad decisions
  • I know that this is personal, but because of my mothers honesty; well read on you all will get my gripe. My dear mother spent 51 consecutive years a resident of Trinidad & Tobago. I sponsored my mother and she then sponsored my remaining 6 siblings for status in the US. She spent an aggretated total of 5 years and 6 months in New York, before settleing back in T&T. When my mother was 65 years, she applied for old age pension in T&T. She was asked if she was ever out of T&T for any period of time and she answered yes, regarding the years. Well, she was denied. She did not lie as many have done about time spent in foreign countries. The law states that one must not be away for more than 5 aggregate years in order to qualify for old age pension.
On the other hand a foreigner can seek citizenship in T&T and after 20 years or less collect old age pension. (What irony)
Million Dollars for some artiste is fine. However, what about my honest mother and all who are in the same position as her.
    • Pension in Trinidad is the same as pension all over the world, if you have mor than a certain amount of money saved and if you are getting pension from the states or England you will not get the pension at home. If you have not contributed to the NIS you are not entitled to it.
In the past if you travelled and lived outside you had to wait twenty years before you could get the pension now you have to wait five years before you can apply. It is false information lie to say that a foreigner can just enter Trinidad and get pension. I am always weary of people who spend years outside of Trinidad and return to collect all that they feel they are entitled to
  • I think that the only people that should get 2 million dollars are the steelnands in the Large band catergory of the National Panorama.
The large bands comprise of 100-plus players and it would be appropriate that they should be the ones who should get that increase. they practice for hours everynight for at least 2 months to perfect their piece, while the other artists who are mostly individuals dont put in a quarter of that time, it would not be fair to the panmen to be given an equal share as the other individual artists. With all due respect to Lady Prime Minister, I think this was said in the heat of the election campaign and was not something she give special thought too.
    • You are typical of what is needed to kill that offer. Start thr squabbling about who should get that money. ALL PAN PEOPLE ARE WORTH THAT MONEY FOR "DEDICATION" ALONE.
  • It is one thing to give the all competitions a hundred percent increase in prize monies, but to give everyone two million dollars across the board is unfair to the panorama participants. This is bad business. The pan community is being played. Did everyone get one million dollars in prize monies last year?
