No Drag for pan fans

I think Pan Trinbago made a very bad mistake in charging people to see the bands practice on the drag. That was a big part of the panorama experience. bugs

  • I dont mind supporting as long the players get their fair share
  • $60 to hear 47 of d best steelbands,in the world.
    Do the math.What a deal
    Ducks
  • $60 and $80 is not too much to pay on the drag but there must be a promise that it will remain like that for several years. Trinbagonians are slowly becoming a Gimme Gimme nation along with the negativity that I observe they are noted for. Pantrinbago have to pay for something and this full dependency is the government is ridiculous. The limers are also complaining that they pay too much, so who really wants to pay for pan if not the fans who? the government already pays the players now do we expect them to pay for spectators?. Go for a night at the London Philharmonic or to New York and experience how much you pay to hear their Orchestra and tell me when it was free. Most of this Panorama has been free. Such is the disrespect for our national instrument that people are refusing and wrenching about a payment of $80. KFC gets more than that from a Trinbagonian. The all inclusives cost from $300 t0 $1000 and some people do not get the promised food or get only doubles yet we quibble about the pan that we are supposed to love so much. STEUPS
    • Yuh damn right Sarah-Anne!!..... I STEUPS to that too.....
      • exactly my point! big up!
  • I just heard about this nonsense from my sister yesterday -- is like they want to undo the culture (regardless how much they claim they need money, Panorama can't be the same).
  • well personally i like the idea of that. dont take it the wrong way.......please hear me out before you argue...............it's just that this is our thing, we should be proud of it. why have beyonce come to trinidad and ppl pay $1600 to see her and when the time comes to hear pan for $60 it officially becomes a burden on the pocket?
the idea behind it is good. the only bad part of it is that pan trinbago collects the money....*sigh*
  • How will this be organized and what will the cost be? I remember seeing some post about this before but cant remember where
    • Ok I found info

Paying more for PanoramaPosted by Pan Times on January 10, 2010 at 10:32am in News

      Trinidad Express
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, WI - Diehard pan followers who love to listen to pan on ‘de track’ during Panorama competitions, will have to pay $60 and $80 for the privilege at the semi-finals and finals on January 24 and 31 respectively, at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain.

This charge will be for a new competition in which the steelbands fine tuning their Panorama tunes will be eligible, and it is one of the changes announced yesterday by Pan Trinbago for the Panorama 2010 competition. The track leading up to the Savannah stage is where the bands fine tune the songs before their performance, by playing them over and over at varying tempos.

Pan Trinbago secretary Richard Forteau yesterday explained, ’This is generally regarded as the better part of the music. This is where you hear it slow, not so slow and uptempo. It’s like a concert and we don’t think it is asking too much to ask people to pay for this.’
