OSCAR PILE, ONE OF THE GREAT PIONEERS

Oscar Pile story is usually left out of the history books and one of my Comrades Cecil Hinkson from WST  was inquiring about him so I decided to take the initiative to open this discussion. He said,  NO ONE CAN CLAIM THAT HE HAD INVENTED THE PAN

  • Ian I have DVD with Prince Batson of Hell Yard now called All Stars. He had some interesting things to say on Pan Evolution. He was there in the earlies in the Era of Big Head Hamilton the Skipper of Hell Yard who the great Neville Jules used to call Captain. Batson said that Big Big Head Hamil as he was affectionately called was the first guy he saw obtains notes on a Pan. That's interesting. Hamil was born in 1920. There is so much more for us to really find out before we get the real Truth about this Sweet thing Called Pan.
    • Thanks Val,

There are many different accounts of the same happenings. I do not know if it will be fair to merely start the growth of pan from 1951 with TASPO. Nah! dar wooding b fair (lol)

Can someone in power negotiate to get Mr. Jules and Mr. Mannette in a discussion?

      •  You must have Augustus "One Man" Mark, in any dicussion of this nature. Remember in those years Casablanca was a mighty force, and as a result of that they had an idea about what was happening all around and by whom.

      • Ian, If you get Jules and DR Mannette you got to get Sir Anthony Williams too, then the authorities have to pick out the truth from the Lies (I did not meant to say Lies but what ever is equal to amnesia or early Dementia) do a process of elimination, make comparison with other Great Pan Pioneers like Oscar Pile, Prince Batson, Of course info from George Goddard (cant leave him out) etc, etc, etc.

      • Ian, you got power too boi.

        • Nah Cecil, not that kind of power, but if we can become a pan-unit, we can be effective.

  • A living legend who was at one time, wise and serious when talking about hiStory about "steelpan growing up"...
  • As a young Boy growing up In POS I always heard about Oscar  Pile. I never got to meet him. In later years I heard an interview with him and He seems to know a lot of what happened when Pan was in its infant stage. As I Said Some time earlier Someone should have some of the Great Icons of Pan who contributed to its development like Jules - Eli - Tony Williams and any other Person who has knowledge of Pan Evolution in a Pan Forum and let them tell their Story. Too many People are given Credit for things they never did.

    • Valentine Young: By the way, I want to tell you that you are one of the most disciplined and respectful posters I have seen on this forum. I always read your posts expecting decency, integrity and REAL LOVE FOR THE PAN.

And your CONSISTENCY is nothing short of remarkable.

Like yuh doh have ah angry bone in yuh body, boy!!!

      I certainly admire you!!!

    • You all notice, when Port-of-Spain talk going on, Town people have the floor South people keep quiet, when Sando' talk going on, South people have the floor Port-of-Spain people keep quiet.(is expected, right Glenroy?)
