“Pan in de countryside” is the latest innovation by Pan Trinbago.

As the name suggests, “Pan in de countryside” is taking steelpan to people who would not ordinarily have the opportunity to come to the city to hear bands, therefore the organization will be bringing it to them.”

The first in the series of concerts takes place on Sunday 27th March 2011 at the Cedros Recreational Ground, Cedros, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The featured bands include Panorama 2011 Large Band Champions Trinidad All Stars, Harmonites, La Brea Nightingales, Tornadoes, Self Help Marines and Woodbrook Playboyz.

In addition to scintillating music of the steelpans, patrons will be able to enjoy the village ambience and fare.

Prizes will be awarded to the “Best Fish Broth” as well as the person in the “Best Sunday Best” outfit.

Non-participating steelbands are asked to support the event by organizing excursions.

The next event is scheduled for Mayaro on Sunday 5th June 2011.

  • Very nice! Heard it was a great outing....looking forward to "Mayaro's" and others.

    Keep it up!

  • a like this when all ya coming tobago???
  • What's old is new again and Pan Trinbago deserves congrats.  If the steelpan is the national musical instrument of T&T, it should be showcased all over the nation (doh forget 'Bago).  I wish I was there to enjoy the country-side ambiance, period.
  • I am glad to read about this. I have been pushing this idea for the last ten years, Why has it taken so long?

  • Pan Trinbago should be broardcasting these shows world-wide with some visual Media Network, this will help to stimulate more interest and can improve the international Steel Pan music industry as a whole.

  • Well done PanTrinbago!
  • Thanks to NSSO, David Elcock, Public Transport Services and all progressive and socially responsible corporations, businesses, groups, agencies and individuals who recognise the value of the national instrument and are "doing something for pan".  If the trend continues, an ordinance that restricts the playing of electronic music within an earshot of a steelband during the Carnival season may be next.  Congrats, Pan Trinbago, nice move.

  • Though i commend pantrinbago on this, i would not say it's new or inovative because this is something trinidad all stars did for many years in the early seventies using buses donated by the public transport services and Dave Elcock was the mc and traveled to many places around the country doing free concerts, This is not to take away from the new efforts being done at this time, and i'm happy about it but wrote this as a reminder because the young pantrinbago members may not know about many things done by bands in the past.
  • Great!
  • This is hardly an innovation by Pan Trinbago. The Trinidad and Tobago National Steel Symphony Orchestra (NSSO) for the last two years has presented pan in areas underserved by the large bands. In 2010 - the NSSO played a concert during carnival in Toco. In 2011, it was well reported that the NSSO presented concerts in Chaguanas Guayaguare and Siparia.

In addition, the NSSO offered a 2009 Christmas concert in Fyzabad.

We commend Pan Trinbago for finally following the lead of the National Orchestra.
